I know this is me overanalyzing silly stuff about a silly show that has no logical plot whatsoever each episode but I can't stop reminding myself the fact that in G1 during the Nightbird episode it was implied Megatron liked her and then there's the fact that her entire programation was Soundwave's job.
What if. What if Soundwave just basically copypasted a majority of his own traits as spy and such to her. Does that make any sense? Megatron not realizing he's just pinning for a ninja robot that copies Soundwave's skills, and Soundwave watching him compliment her all the time while awkardly trying to figure out if he's overthinking it too much.
Don't get me wrong, I love Nightbird's character as her own and I think she was wasted potential for only a single episode, but I also think this post could be used as a silly dumb self-indulgent ship idea sometimes. I love them all.

Ok so there comes a time in every relationship where your partner annoys you and then you have to decide if staying with them is worth it cuz you love them more than the person’s flaws? Now for the batboys, what normal annoying things from their partner do you think would annoy them? And on the flip side, what do you think the bat boys would do to annoy their partner without meaning too? (Example: One of the things about Dick is that he has organised mess and he gets incredibly stressed out if someone moves his stuff around without telling him. It’s as basic as his shoes being cleaned and placed a couple of feet in the open from where they were for him without telling him, he feels like an asshole and apologises after once he cools down, but this actually upsets him in canon comics.) (for example for reader: it can be he has an annoying sneeze that goes through you when you sit next to him)?
His Pet Peeve vs His Bad Habit
A/N: Ended up making this somewhat a two-part post since let's be real, all of them would be guilty with crashing unannounced which i posted here😂

Dick:
Pet peeve that you do: touching his stuff
Others have said he's terrible at putting things away, he simply calls it an organizational mess. It works for him so why should it matter to anyone else?
Can’t handle anyone moving his things. Absolutely, genuinely, no matter who it is
Called and texted you multiple times before over this whether it’s his shoes being placed a few inches away where he usually places them, his cereal boxes in the wrong order compared to how he usually has them placed
“Where are my keys? What? Why would you place them in my desk’s drawer? They belong on the couch-”
There are reasons why he placed things the way they are. It’s not hard to not touch and leave them be
Vents out his frustration and irritation but never to the point of crossing the line since you only move things when you’re helping him out with cleaning his place out especially if he neglects doing some house chores ( laundry, dishes, making his bed, everything)
Bad habit that annoys you: naming things after his vigilante code name
He’s known to be witty and charming with his word play, most of the time being cute or funny. But when it comes to naming, in general, it’s a mess
The name he gave to his boat, motorcycle, car, and weapons are of the following: boat wing, wing cycle, nightbird, wing dings. Yes, this is all canon and it should be telling how great his naming senses are
You swore and even made a bet against his friends that he was the one to give the name Bitewing to the cute pitbull. You later called Tim and Babs to express your disappointment towards them, saying they knew better
You tried not to shed a tear from how proud you were for Dick to name Bitewing with a reasonable and normal civilian name: Haley. It wasn’t Nugget or Gray - it was an actual memorable and good name
Begged him to not have the plane he planned to have either “night” or “wing”. No Wing Plane, no Night Flight, please. Something normal. He never listens and goes it for it in the end
Jason:
Pet peeve that you do: Incorrect grammar and messes
He’s special because he has two: incorrect grammar usage and his place being messy
Unlike Dick who hates people touching his stuff in general, Jason’s more keeping his space clean
Seriously, anyone who breaks into his room should know how meticulous he is, where even his weapons are hanging on the walls in fancy oak wood frames with red velvet cushioning underneath for aesthetics
He’s gentle but looks like a cherry when he reminds you to make sure you’re not leaving your laundry on the ground or used napkins on the table - like there’s a dirty hamper and trash can for a reason and it’s not for decoration
Irritates him to no end when people misuse words and grammar where he’ll annoy the other person until the correct it including you
Yes he will do the cliche can vs may (“Can you? As in are you able to? Or may you as in you need permission”), use asterisks below your text with the correct word because if it annoys you think about how he feels when you make those errors
Bad habit that annoys you: Messy eater
With him being a fan of eating hand-held foods, favorite being hot dogs and ice cream, he frequently gets food stains on his clothes
Slouches on his chair or couch, ketchup slipping off and onto his shirt and munching without a care while you’re staring at the guy who’s also a clean freak regarding his private space
Lost track how many shirts he ruined, annoying you and himself
Though sometimes it was appreciated when he’d get up and take off his shirt to wash out the fresh, new stain at the kitchen sink ;)
But most times you threaten to get him a bib or be those pretentious, stereotypical rich people where they stuff a corner of their napkin into their shirts while shaking the numerous shirts you had to wash in a single week
Tim:
Pet peeve that you do: not following directions
He already gets agitated and stressed when no one follows the plans he spent three weeks perfecting without sleep. What makes you think he won’t be the same when you don’t read the package inserts or the directions?
Most of the time everything goes smoothly when reading them. And do you know how much time it must’ve taken to write the instructions while considering all the people they’re selling their product to?
He does admit a some are BS and make no sense
Doesn’t express his annoyance and instead stays on the sidelines, slurping from his can of Monster and lets you do your own thing knowing you’re going to fail. Then once you do and get frustrated as to why nothing is working, he rubs it in how you should’ve read the instructions
“You sure that’s right? It says here you need to insert that part first.” “I know what I’m doing Tim, I’ve done it a thousand times.” Cue the Ikea frame falling. “Maybe you should’ve read the package insert.” “Shut up.”
Bad habit that annoys you: Napping locations
Where he takes his naps is just as bad as his caffeine consumption and lack of sleep in general
When he’s tired, like really tired, he can sleep anywhere. In the classroom, in the conference room, on the floor of the living room
You found him sleeping on the kitchen table once. As in his whole body lying on the table. How and why neither of you know other than Tim remembering he wanted to rest his head on the table
You’ve begged him so many times to nap on the bed or couch out of concern he was going to get hurt
He still doesn’t listen so you started a collection of taking pictures of the oddest places he sleeps at and on, proceeding by sending them to the group chat. It does work but only for a while since he’ll end up falling asleep after not sleeping for another whole week
Duke:
Pet peeve that you do: common sense
When leaving the room, turn the lights off. When done washing your hands, turn the faucet off. In other words, common sense
He really doesn’t get how it’s so hard to do just that. It should be natural, automatic response
After becoming a full time vigilantes, the bigger things he scratches up as the per usual daily problems but it’s the little things that get to him
Found you reading in the dark once without having the lights on before. He went on about vision impairment after flicking the switch up. He wasn’t amused when you joked how he could’ve sat next to you so you’d get both a reading lamp and body-sized pillow
Don’t get him started with dishes and how they should’ve been washed after a meal not leaving them in the sink for who knows how long
Also cereal. He believes it’s cereal first then milk, reasoning you can control the amount and ratio of cereal to milk
Bad habit that annoys you: biting pencils
Does it whenever he’s thinking about something deeply but can’t solve the issue
Whether it’s working on a plan, trying to figure out a case, doing homework
Problem is pencil paint isn’t all that healthy or safe to consume. Also having a pencil have smell like one’s breath isn’t that appealing
Doesn’t matter what part of the pencil though there seems to be actual indents near the eraser end which once made you asked if a pencil tastes good
You’ve gotten him mechanical pencils and eraser toppers. Somewhat worked only for him to go back using his usual wooden pencils and bite them again
Tries to stop after you went on how harmful biting pencils are, still finds himself doing it time-to-time
Damian:
Pet peeve you do: calling him short
Don’t ever bring it up. Don’t ever mention it. He. Is. Not. Short
Height is not everything when it comes to crime fighting. Skills, abilities, and strategy beats pure physical prowess
He’s not the shortest either. He’s still growing. Drake is only 5’7” at his current age while Todd was 4’6” when he was Robin. Being 5’4” is a perfectly, acceptable height
This also includes all synonyms and phrases. Tiny, small, fun sized. His personality coming from the fact shorter people are closer to hell-
He fumes and bursts whenever it happens. Literally will get ready wage a battle of a lifetime
Whenever you do it, he gives you hell by pranking you in every way until you wave the white flag and admit you’re wrong. Usually that never happens and the adults end up having to step in to get both of you two stop
Bad habit that annoys you: tongue clicking
Does it to express so many emotions, so it gets confusing as to why he clicked his tongue without the full context
It could be from annoyance, dissatisfaction, or disagreement. At least you know it’s used for a negative response
Not as bad when he does it because he got stumped since then you’re just smug and getting to gloat you were right while he scowls back
But when he does it to avoid answering you out right or when he refuses to agree- like come on, use your words not onomatopoeia
Ask him if he’s doing it because he’s sulking and it gets him to stop only for it happen again as it’s part of his habit
Cue another reason for a childish war between the two of you where one has to one-up the other

27 of the Best Books I Read in 2024 Part 3 of 3
Read here or on my substack
Part 1 on Tumblr and substack
Part 2 on Tumblr and substack
The novella I've wanted for years
A Magical Girl Retires by Park Soyoung
Magical Girl is one of my favorite subgenres so I was so excited to get my hands on this novella written for Millennial women who grew up on Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Magic Knight Rayearth. I loved the blending of adult issues (credit card debt unemployment) with global issues (domestic abuse and climate change) combined with magical girl job fairs and destiny and grief and loneliness. Hands down, the best novella of 2024 and there were so many amazing ones (shout out to Butcher of the Forest by Premee Mohammed)
The Romantasy that became my all-time favorite
Under the Oak Tree by Kim Suji
There are not enough words in the English language to explain how meaningful this story is to me, how two lonely, damaged people, one a survivor of childhood abuse and the other with a deep-seated inferiority complex, found each other and became each other's whole world. Their love is not healthy, they're absolutely obsessed with each other and I loved every last word
The book that reminded me of when I was ten and wanted to be a marine biologist
The Phoenix Keeper by S A MacLean
We have a Bi lead with anxiety who has achieved her life-long dream of taking care of phoenixes at a zoo for magical creatures, a slowburn Sapphic rivals-to-lovers romance, and a cozy atmosphere. It's a wonderful comfort read and accessible worldbuilding that feels a lot like being behind the scenes at the San Diego Zoo.
The Sapphic sci-fi that hit all the right buttons
Redsight by Meredith Mooring
Meredith Mooring is in the Star Wars fandom and it comes across in the worldbuilding, but she also adds blind representation and themes of religious trauma. Also, the love interest turns into a snake and eats a man alive in her first POV chapter. If that doesn't sell you on trying it, I don't know what will.
The book that made me feel like I was reading a dark fairy tale
A Dark and Drowning Tide by Allison Saft
The other Saft book on my list and her first adult book and first book centering a Sapphic romance. I loved the academic one-sided rivals-to-lovers and how much folklore and the treatment of Jewish people in folklore is discussed. As with all of Saft's works, this is set in a secondary world, but the real world coding is incredibly strong.
The book that hit generational trauma the hardest
All the Times Before by Asha Thanki
I don't know what I was expecting when I picked this up, but it certainly defied all of my expectations in the best way possible. The Sapphic slowbuild romance arc takes almost the entire book and it feels so earned by the characters. I loved the idea of a shawl full of the rich history of a family of women that connects them to each other and their small magical abilities.
The contemporary romance that had me squealing
Knives, Seasoning, and a Dash of Love by Katrina Kwan
I love a big height difference, I Iove male characters who have big hands, and I'm always down for a book discussing themes of identity. One of my favorite contemporary romances of the year and the one that fit my tastes the most.
The quiet Queer historical that kept me gripped
The Paris Affair by Maureen Marshall
One of the reasons I was really into this one is because of how quiet the romance is. I don't know how anyone else feels, but season 4 of Bridgerton definitely made me hungry for more romances that aren't explosive or full of constant intense passion and this hit the spot.
The YA that combined magical girls and Prohibition
Nightbirds by Kate J. Armstrong
Ultimately, this is a YA about sex work and the sequel is about sexual slavery. It's done in a way that is accessible to young readers while exploring the different opinions and situations around sex work as a profession and the dangers that come with it. At no point did I feel that the narrative was claiming sex work is a bad thing to choose, but it ultimately needs to be a choice, not something someone is forced into.
What was your favorite book of 2024?

Ya all I have literally had years to think up this plot. Because I've had but no one wants to rp it or they say they do but then they don't for whatever reason.
I'm not to into many superheros but sometimes I am little bit with the right plot.
So I was thinking for an au of glee. With the ship seblaine
But like some people are born with powers and some aren't. So Blaine like thought he'd never get powers but he was like a late bloomer. And he decides to be a hero called nightbird ( named after the superhero name he made up for himself in the superhero episode)
And Sebastian like he comes like from a family of villains I was thinking. But he's like against his family being supervillains. And he could be a hero if you want but I think it would be interesting if he was antihero.
So like where shipping comes into this. Is in there civilian lives they know eachother but maybe one character has a one sided crush. And then when there undercover like the exact opposite person has a crush on the other. But they don't know there the same people at first. And maybe over time they end up catching feelings for side of the person they weren't crushing on before. Which I think would make really interesting dynamics since they don't realize the civilian version and there masked version are same person ( kinda like a miraculous ladybug situation)
Except we'd make our own version and story.
If interested dm me here to get my code to discord. And please don't say your interested only to ghost me. Because that's happened a lot lately outta no where..
I understand everyone gets busy, me included. With my personal life, and my chats are dry right now but there was a time there were the exact opposite and it was overwhelming. But I wouldn't be looking for rps if I didn't think I could handle them right now. ^^
Also I'm most comfortable playing Blaine as I don't really know how to approach being Sebastian. Though I really like him as a character.

The WyattSicks are not fully complete yet. Early next year soon their 6th member will arrive. Patience… Patience
Funny how nobody notices these important QR codes in nightbird. Like Bliss will join them it’s not up for debate lol. Or else they wouldn’t have teased her name in the lineup 🤷🏻♀️. Also looking at the members in the WyattSicks there’s not really a strong person good in the mic/promos. Obviously Bo is good but he hasn’t really done any in ring promos. It makes me think that’s gonna be done by Alexa. She will do the promo talking alongside Bo. She literally is the best on 🎤. In the journal entry her letter say “when she speaks mountains should tremble” . Clearly referring to her mic work.

okay okay okay . i can finally talk about the alexa vignette from friday .
there isn't a ton of new stuff to dive into , but what is there is interesting . so let's dive into it .
starting with the words of the promo . when i was away , there was a lot of change that happened in me . when alexa walked away , there was a lot of confusion in her . a lot of fear of the unknown and fear of losing control . but stepping away gave her a chance to learn how to harness her own potential , how to be more in control and see lilly as an equal . she's come back without fear . she has a confidence that has been lacking for longer than she'd like to admit .
you'll see in toronto when i turn the elimination chamber into something of a playground of my own . this one is kind of obvious . but it is the first time alexa's acknowledged alexa's playground in years . this is a soft , subtle nod that the alexa we're seeing is a continuation of the alexa we saw in 2020 . this is not the goddess . this is something else , something wicked .
there's a moment that could be a hint at wyatt interference or appearance at elimination chamber . i wouldn't bet on it or anything , but when she mentions that for the other five women , it's going to be a hell like they've never experienced before . obviously this reminds me of the fiend's tendency to drag foes to hell . but it also gives a hint that we should be expecting something ruthless from her . whether it be something only from her or from the entirety of the wyatt sicks .
finally , there's the whole need i remind you this is my division and i am in charge . this is a direct response to the wyatt glitch from last week that spelled out do you feel in charge . this is a confident alexa . this in an alexa who has no doubt how strong she is and what she's capable of . the only question is , how does uncle howdy feel about this ?
now , we can jump into the imagery . like i said , there's not a lot . but what's there is pretty fucking cool .
throughout the vignette , we can see the fireflies bright in the background . this needs no explanation , but i thought it was a really cool nod to bray and their connection . we also see glimpses of alexa's playground and glitching video , clearly connecting her with the wyatt sicks incase it hadn't been obvious before .
but the coolest image , in my opinion , is a blink and you'll miss it flash of the word bird . for those who didn't follow the lead up to the wyatt sicks debut , there was a campaign called nightbird leading up to the debut . codes , hidden messages , a ton of stuff that built up their arrival . we got all of our answers with the appearance of the group ... except one . who is the nightbird ? i think this could be a hint towards that .

Do you love to read? Do you love to read books with strong queer characters? Do you wish there were more stories with strong queer characters? Do you want to support an up-and-coming queer author?? If so, please consider donating to get my novel, Code of the Nightbird, edited and published!
Title: Code of the Nightbird
Genre(s): Fiction, queer fiction
Summary: When Julien Grant walks into the dentist’s office, he expects the worst. What he doesn’t expect, however, is to be told that in order for him to get the surgery he needs, he will have to attend conversion therapy. Why? Because his insurance carrier, like most in America now, allows for providers to pull coverage from those whose “lifestyle” goes against their religious beliefs. Faced with a ticking clock and no alternative, Julien finds himself at Galilee Baptist Church, an ostensibly beautiful property that hides more than a few sinister secrets below its pews. At Galilee, Julien must learn who he is, both to himself and to others. At first, Julien wishes only to survive and complete the course so that his procedure can finally be finished, but when he begins to develop feelings for another boy in the program, Julien must reevaluate everything. Code of the Nightbird is part romance, part social commentary, and part tribute to the human condition!

hehe flower symbols with nightbird
some ‘reasons why x flower + meanings’ below
-
*fyi these are based on headcanons that I have about nb
(in the border/ imprinted in the background)
So, war is kinda obvious. However, I think she enjoys to fight, maim, bite, etc. (this is coded into her) She also grows to hate humanity and Megatron, dips to become a mercenary (also goes along with resistance). I’m under the idea that the whole of NB’s being is the ai/brain chip she got from bombshell, so she can change her body/transport herself if said chip is safe (’hard to kill’ is what I mean).
(behind Nightbird)
i dunno man I like giving her spark-envy. Ironically, giving her a robot-typical storyline situation but surrounded by other robots.

for the 3 sentence thing: can I ask for a rosanna/nightbird space pirate au
Nightbird's ship was cramped enough that even with the quick money on offer, she had thought long and hard about agreeing to the garish little cassette's offer to pay for her to make a detour; it would only really fit one person, but Rosanna had insisted she could recharge in alt, and anyway, she was tiny.
What she hadn't warned Nightbird about was the racket, since apparently Rosanna was of the opinion that paying customers got to pick the music, which was as good a reminder as any as to why Nightbird generally preferred to keep to her little one-person ship and steal her living as and when the opportunity arose instead of making a more legitimate living.
When she finally had the place to herself again and took off, she found her ship's hard drive full of curated playlists and the comm with a new private comm code programmed in under "✨✨Rosanna✨✨", and worked to keep the smile off her face even with nobody around and her face mask in place, just on principle.
#honestly keeping this to three sentences was hard bc it's. great. i love this OP thank u.#rosanna#nightbird#fic#ask meme#my fic

Viper’s Vengeance Chapter 3: Peril Among the Stars
Chapter 1
So, its been almost six months since I updated this story. Primus it feels like so long ago. I had so much going on in my life, I’m happy this is over, now I can start working on the next chapter!
~
Ten years since the incident. Program updating, systems operational, protocols online, activation, begin. The eternal darkness ended for the longest time. A figure stood there, bearing a skull for a face. Scanners indicating an unrecognizable soldier. Not of any origin. The prototype stared, a life hidden behind black glass, leaving worry in the samurai. Bludgeon stepped back, pointing a katana's tip at the symbol on the failure's chest.
“State your designation.” The mech ordered, leaving confusion on the Rattler.
No reply, instead, the machine pushed the sword away and walked towards the exit. The skeleton sneered, noticing the warnings going off all around them. “Alert, unknown enemy detected, alert.” Said in such calmness that didn't seem to care.
“You'd better prove yourself whatever your name is. I don't want to return to base with a defect for spare parts!” That seemed to trigger something in the dark blue mech's systems, and off he ran...
“Viper?” Her voice broke the processor's glitch. Viper blinked a few times, turning to face her. “Are you sure you're okay here? I do remember that your processor acts up in certain locations.” She reminded, glancing at the lights bringing the place back up into operation.
“This is where Cobra sealed me after my malfunction. Ten years after that, Luca revealed this location to Megatron. He grew impatient of the human's failures, so the human spat out this. Bludgeon found me right as an Autobot got too close to the area. Took care of Sideswipe, which was all that bone face needed to prove that I was worth the time.” Viper walked past the femme and towards a large machine. “Here, this is where my new life began.” The mech gave a swift kick, then tearing apart the rest of the stasis pod.
The femme ninja listened to the denting metal and shattering glass. Standing still as this continued for a bit. Yellow optics took notice of the interior, finding old forgotten machinery. No wonder Cobra dumped their failed prototype here. What was the first mission she took on in the Earth Wars? Ah yes, when she had to face Arcee who hid secret codes. Far simpler times, before the Prime Cores, Demigods, Deathsarus, GI Joe, and Cobra. Such insanity in a few short years. That voice in her helm kept repeating that confession, yet, she couldn't say. Why is it so difficult to talk?
She waited until Viper finished crushing the stasis machine apart. His wings flared, back hunched over. The snake got up, turning to face her. “I'm better now, sorry about that, there are some things I never want to see active again.” Viper trailed off, heading over to a big computer. “In this, it houses the answers I am seeking. From what I can know, this system has a lot of Cobra plans and projects. Bludgeon insisted that we leave this place soon so I could meet Megatron. I couldn't uncover its secrets at that moment. I want to know why Cobra created me, it's impossible for someone to come up with an insane idea. A whole organization going along with it. A robot soldier wearing the shell of a Rattler.” His bulky digits pressed on the small keyboard, being careful to ensure not to break the source of his past.
Words scrolled by which showed so many forgotten ideas. Nightbird listened to the swearing before tugging him aside. Then she typed it out herself. “I'll handle this, I'm used to tiny keys.” The Japanese fembot interjected, finding it to be easier for her to do this. Odd, nothing on Viper, yet the name Rattler and Transformer did appear a few times.
After a bit of digging around, a file appeared with top secret reports. The two read through them, both taking it all in. How could the American government know so much about Cybertronian technology? Its documentation came thirty years before the Autobots and Decepticons arrived to Earth. It didn't make any sense, nor the live specimen documented. The identity lost, making it difficult to guess who would give up their body for them to research.
Viper took a while to say anything, left in silence over all the materials they read. “Those documents, they must've been the blueprints Cobra used to create me... Nightbird, can you find anything about who wrote this?” He whispered, optics glued to the screen as they found a picture file.
A bunch of humans, all posed by a piece of machinery that appeared advanced for the time based on their clothes. Some men and women, all in Triple-I: Intelligence and Information Institute. Nightbird typed around a few files, noticing how their names appeared.
“I recognize some of them from my collected memories, and all their names are in the files. They're the ones behind how Cobra created you.” She trailed off, yellow optics glanced at the dark blue mech. He stared at the humans in their thirty year old days.
“Do you know where they are now?” Viper came up to the screen, taking in the details.
“A quick search on the internet gave me everything I needed, oh how clumsy they are to use this 'social media'. I assume this was a long forgotten program, happened in North Dakota, August 16th, 1986. No one knows of this as they retired from the military. All this time, America had access to those of the stars. Why do you ask?”
“I may have killed my creators, but knowing this, I cannot let more of me be born by their hands. I'm not yet done with my thirst for revenge. Nightbird, I'd suggest you go back with the others. There's a high risk that I will die once this task is complete. All hiding in America and other parts, they forget, not knowing that their pasts will haunt them once again.” The mech copied the data, making the best route based on where the humans live. They'll all pay for their foolishness. Their thirst for eternal knowledge will destroy them.
Nightbird held his shoulder, her optics narrowed. “Its not easy to complete a task solo. I'll come along, you've already shown me your second birthplace. Before you complain about how I can't because of the water, I'll find my ways. Where are you heading first?”
“Los Palmos Observatory, located in Texas close to Mexico. Two of the scientists at the Triple I worked at North Dakota. They wrote a bit about Cybertronians ability to travel through the stars. Nothing too major, but its a start. Think your tires can handle that? Its farther than from here back to base at Arizona.” He chuckled, wings twitching and ready to leave this trash heap.
“Sounds good, will meet you there when I can. Take care Viper, we're going to be dancing with death soon.” She flipped her body, transforming and driving out of the hidden base.
Why is she so intent on helping him? All the dark blue jet knew is that he's the only Cybertronian created by humans. Viper waited till she's far away to dim the computer's screen. He turned to stare at the scar embedded into his helmet and face. Primus he felt tired, unsure what to think knowing how right she is. Its a suicide mission to enrage the American government and the Autobots, but this has to happen. Taking a few deep vents, the mech connected a few cables to his helmet and lied down. Gotta leave one last present to those who documented the creation...
Data, so many pieces swirled around the unconscious mind. Downloading into his helm, awakening those old memories that most forgot. Humanity stole the gift of those from the stars. Living aliens, mastering the ability to change shape. Documenting entire histories far before the first man sharpened a rock. Yet, as Viper continued this, strange images began to form. Among them, the complete blueprints of the Rattler Transforming Soldier. Bright blue optics widened, noticing something wrong. It has no face underneath the visor and mouthplate... The Decepticon stared, before touching his own mouthplate and broken visor. The dates don't add up, these can't be the complete ones! He stared before deleting the information once its registered into his helm.
After a while going through the tediousness, its over now. Viper forced his processor out of this self inflicted slumber. Now no one can look up those old documents anymore. No human deserves to know the existence of Cybertronian life, not if they gave birth to imitations. Those who are fakes, that shamed upon. Yet, that empty face remained etched into his optics. More questions came than answers, leaving the mech in silence. As the snake got out of his forced slumber, he noticed an acid gun lying by his side. The same weapon left behind after Cobra's demise. Fingers touched the aged metal, knowing how good it is to wield this old weapon once more. Must've been a gift from Nightbird, who seemed to get it all fixed up. “Canary, I'll figure out why you hide so much from me.” Came a chuckle, before he got out of the old place once again.
Back in the harsh sunlight, why is the western coast so darn hot? No wonder there isn't that much greenery around here. Why couldn't the Decepticons set up a base somewhere nice? Rather than the remains of human activity. Still, the images he saw made his tanks clench. How could those blueprints show no face? Processor in a daze, forgetting Nightbird as she drove beneath him. They traveled across the shadows of the canyons once leaving civilization. So many lives passing by, children at a school, people buying at stores, watching movies. Oh the movies; such strange concepts that Cybertronians never got into until the war. Easiest way to document any traitors or secret plans. That's from what he recalled listening to the others when they got overcharged off their afts.
Oh what fun times to hear the cheery voices that everyone gave out after a successful raid. Also when a new bot comes over from wherever. Moon, Earth, any planet, depends on if they're liked among the others to care. Why is Earth such a gathering place for these guys? There are other planets too, yet they stay on what they called the 'dirtball'. Viper never felt right to call his home the dirtball. This planet is where his creators got the materials to create him. The mech exhaled, noticing how the Sun began to set. The yellow sphere that rotates around this planet. Cybertron didn't have any light up above, nor any oxygen. Three moons which the Autobots claimed as their own. The Rattler remembered how happy he felt to be on the metal moon, that its the home far away from home. Due to their technology, both could move across the deserts further than a regular car on a road trip. The suburban family riding out to somewhere like Palm Springs or Las Vegas.
It took a long time to travel from California to Texas. Baking in the hot sun never helped his mood as music kept playing from his radio. A lot of Spanish songs, getting closer to the border. What a strange choice for an advanced observatory's location, but no matter what. They'll be the first to pay for their crimes. Down below, a stylish black and white car drove on the road. Nightbird is quite durable, but that makes sense for everyone. Cybertronians are able to handle the heat. Viper’s quite lucky that he won’t have to endure any pain in the Summer warmth. Still nothing back from Megatron or the rest of his soldiers. Its good, no reason to worry as he must’ve taken the request for a break for granted. Never easy to obliterate an entire army by oneself. The rest of the flight is a blank, with the dust devils coming and going. Once the mission is over, he’ll try to visit Tijuana to eat some barbecued iguana. Whatever that may taste like.
The misery ended in the night sky’s greeting. A lone observatory lay still, lens continuing to observe what may be out there. Los Palmos has seen better days, forgotten to the world beyond the science community. Hiding a sin, that desire to find life beyond the Earth. Two life forms detected in the scanners, the files state for them to be Jack and Sue Richards. Two astronomers who’ve spent long lives exploring across the world. To the most exotic places for the greatest lens to observe the distant nebulae. Before their journeys, they accepted being members of the Triple I, which meant a piece of his birth. Los Palmos is their home, far up in the mountains that could show much more of the desert had the sun blessed them.
Viper landed on the rocky top, bright blue optics stared for a long time. His turbines slowed down to reduce the heavy noises. Acid gun clenched in a firm hold. So, this is how revenge grows, to slaughter them, their work is the reason he grew in the Cobra’s nest. To awaken as an abomination, there is nothing left they can give to the Earth that will matter. Time’s left them old and weak. No matter how old or young, its time to never return from the path he once stepped on. Their intense craving will be their undoing, thirty years later.
Sue finished another cup of coffee, heavy bags underneath those brown eyes. Weary eyes glanced up to the old photographs of so many places she once been to. Jack is nearby, back to work on their favorite machinery. A telescope meant their lives, the reason Triple I came to them with their suggestions. To work with them for extra payment and free vacations, oh how perfect it seemed to be. Until that one day… Sue waited for the drink to kick in, an influence rushing through weakened veins. No longer a thought about what may come next, unless it’d be an old family member or friend. Their nephew, an old photo showed said child gripping a diploma while enveloped in blues. “Its been a good life, hasn’t it Jack?”
A man stepped away from the large telescope, coming down to her. “Are you thinking about the Grim Reaper again?”
“Why would I dream of a snake bearing those dark ominous robes?”
“Sue, you should cut the caffeine out, the doc did say it’ll influence your medication.”
“But, we still need to record a few more sights. Los Palmos is our home. I miss those days, and I wished we never got involved with Triple I. To know that aliens exist, to hide that from everyone.” The woman trailed off, taking a large gulp. A nearby candle burned among the heavy lights above which gave light to this dark dome. Silence, a gentle breeze brushing the exterior as always, a hope to bury away the past.
Nightbird transformed, finding Viper standing still. “Once I begin, I cannot go back. Think of your choice Nightbird, I know the consequences of my actions.” He came closer to the observatory as the ninja watched, remaining still.
The Cobra prototype slammed his body against the large building, causing it to shake. He rammed into it a few more times, breaking away the concrete and storming into the building. Something shattered, it must be where they are! Viper prowled into the hallway, kneeling down to ensure he wouldn’t damage his wings.
Sue and Jack ran, a broken mug lay on the floor as the alarms blared. A large shadow emerged from a hallway, causing them to hide in a spare room. Lying on the walls were a few guns, a pitiful attempt to save themselves, but what else could they rely on? Faraway help? They waited in the darkness, holding onto each other and weapons as their ears rang. Hearts racing faster once seeing blue staring back at them.
“Sue and Jack Richards, Triple I, you've chosen a grave mistake for both Cybertronians, and me. The atonement is death.”
Sue fired a few shots at the mech's face, each bullet bouncing off of the mouthplate. The gun slipped from shaking hands, as Jack tried firing back, but with no effect. “Please, don’t do this! We have a nephew who always visits us!” Sue gripped her husband’s jacket, tears coming down the wrinkled face.
“Then he’ll understand.” He aimed the gun, shooting the two with a powerful blast of acid. Emotion drained from blue optics as they screamed. Bodies melting down into puddles of decaying flesh. A rush of energy came to the mech once hearing nothing but alarms. Without warning, he tore through more of the observatory. Acid gun put to use getting rid of everything. “What do you think Cobra Commander!? Do you believe me to be a failure now!?” His roar echoed through the bleak sky.
Nightbird remained still, staring as the building melted into concrete and steel puddles. Yellow noticed the mech walking up to her. She stared up at his optics, finding nothing but a blank blue. “We need to leave before the humans get here.” The femme transformed, driving across the mountain range.
Viper glanced back before running over to the edge of the cliffside and transforming. Soaring through the darkened canyon, dark blue blending in with the darkened oranges. That’s it, no way back once the candle burned bright. A flame that will never die. The flier followed yellow headlights as she swerved across the mountain's paths. In the distance, bright red and blue lights glowed through a known road. ::We’ll need to find a place to hide, I can see the humans coming this way!:: He messaged her.
::I’ll find my way down, we can’t hide here! Go get to somewhere safe and message me when you do!:: She kept driving, never speaking as the Rattler vanished in the night sky.
The ninja femme touched the ground, sprinting away before the vehicles could find her. On the enhanced tires, she didn’t strain under the pressure. A rush of wind graced her back, must've been the human vehicles driving by. So they were going that way too. Nightbird stared at the large puffs of smoke from what remained of the building. Viper did this, but its for a greater good, was it?
After roaming through the darkness, she’d soon slip into a hidden cave. She took a few minutes to relax, then noticed a small fire in the larger part. Nightbird crawled in, finding Viper illuminated by the reds and oranges. Blue optics staring up at an opening in the ceiling.
“I got worried the humans found you.” Not a sign of damage on him, so strange since he’d went through a mess earlier. A bit dusty, but nothing wrong with that. She sat down on the other side, tossing him a cube.
“They’re not meant for speed, they're for emergencies. I’m amazed at how fast they were to arrive, we need to find the best time to get out of here.” The femme leaned back, exhaling a deep vent. “We’ll need to wait until the event dies down before we can head over to our next destination. Do you know where we will go?”
“I’m thinking about it, since the other targets are in further parts of America.” He brushed off the dust, blue optics glimmered alongside the fire burning bright. “You’d better get some rest, you’ve been driving everywhere to tag along with me. I’ll make sure nothing happens.” Viper waited, putting his gun down.
“What about you? Weren't you the one who destroyed the observatory in one swoop? I'm sure none of them will find us, they're too concerned about the two who died. How many more do we need to hunt down?”
“A few more, they kept it a secret. The document states how eight made contact with the Cybertronian on that fateful day. Two are dead, leaving the rest still hiding in their regular lives. Most are in America, yet two aren't. We'll find them, but must keep secret, because the Autobots will find out.”
“But once its over, we'll return to the others, won't we?”
“Depends on if I can survive long enough. But, if I do die, then I will be okay with that once their dead. I do wonder though, will I go to the Allspark? I am human made, wouldn't Primus consider me to not be one of his? It makes me wonder if there is an afterlife for me.” He opened his chest, showing the lack of a Spark.
“I'm sure there is, don't you remember what Starscream said? He saw something after death, and is alive with us now to tell us.”
“He wouldn't stop talking about it, after the death of Unicron.” Viper looked up, hearing the sirens get louder. “Looks like its time to rest.” The mech grabbed a clump of dirt, dropping it over the flames and letting them die down. “We leave as soon as the morning comes.” He lay down, dimming the lights on his armor and entering into a soft recharge, closing the chest.
Nightbird stared before following his orders. She kept to the shadows as the investigation began further away from them. “Six more, you're quite risky to do this.” Came a soft chuckle before joining him in the rest.
Darkness, that's how life begins, doesn't it? Something strange is happening. Whirling machinery, a rush of Energon, dripping, praying, is this where life comes from? Its quiet, what is this? A dream? But, I can't have dreams, I'm not real...
Someone's calling for a name? What is this name? Who's name is it? Why can I hear it? I don't remember it...
My optics opened up, I don't remember this. I'm not at the Cobra base? Its some sort of lab, but not one I recognize. I sat up, taking in my surroundings. Its all Cybertronian, no sign of humanity's work. What's going on? My helm moved down to my body, no. Its not mine! I got off the table, shaking before finding other mechs staring at me. All seemed to be joyous at the sight of my movements. Some came closer to me, speaking about their troubles and what they hope my awakening will mean. If I can concentrate enough, I should be able to move, or speak. Why can't I do this? My controls are gone, I'm lost in this mech's body. Why aren't I scared? This is a dream, I'll wake up when my processor decides to. But, pure Cybertronians can dream, I'm a fake, I can't dream.
A mech came up to me, bearing blue and white armor, a grand smile on his face. He seemed to be talking, but under deaf audio receptors.
Everything flashed white, I now faced an open door to Cybertron? Its golden, much like the mysterious cities of gold on Earth. Cybertronians walked in the streets, speaking among themselves. None bore any symbols, speaking of their lives. I watched this dream run far from the door, exploring this new world. Life, I felt alive, that this was me. No, what I saw wasn't who I am. I will wake up, then forget. Yet, I wished I lived in this Cybertron before the war. Everyone's in union, its so different compared to the one I stepped upon. Gold glimmered alongside the orange lights. If I was human, I would've shed tears upon sight of this marvelous wonder.
Another flash, taking me away from the rushing views, I'm staring up at the stars in some sort of crystal garden? Its so beautiful, much like the sky when I first awoke. They glimmered among the stars, leading me to wondering why I'm here. Then, someone came into view. She stared at me, or this body I'm residing within. A rush of something came back, I couldn't recall why I felt this way, yet, I wanted it to last forever. The femme spoke to me, yet I couldn't hear what the words meant. I wanted to know what this meant, it hurt so much. She's... pretty, I like how she looks in those soft colors. She smiled, cupping this body's cheek, meaning no visor or mouthplate. But, it faded away to white... Wait, don't go! I want to know who you are, who this body belongs too. I'm not real, I'm an imitation... Please, stay...
Blue lights came back online, finding himself in the cave. Nightbird is still asleep, a dream. Yet, what was it about? What body did he see himself in? He lowered his helm, noticing the sounds of sirens are gone. They must've chose to wait for the morning to inspect for the damage. Optics inspected the opening of the cave above, finding glimpses of morning. Its' time to go. He crawled over to the femme, holding her shoulder.
“Wake up Canary, we've got to go before they find us.” He muttered, causing her to stir.
“Ah, so they're gone?”
“Yep, we don't have to worry about them for a while. Gotta get going now before they come back. Our next stop is over in Florida, so I hope you brought your sunscreen.” Viper chuckled, earning a glare from the femme.
“Don't make me report you in for that.” Said with a playful gesture before leaping up onto the ground above.
Viper jumped up as well, soon the two were off again on their long journey. Yet, in this morning light, it brought back the sight of Cybertron when it bore gold. At first, it wasn't good to dwell on strange dreams, yet, now, he wanted it more. How he craved to step into that other mech's life, how he wished it was his. But, life proved to be cold and cruel, leaving him to lash at those who lost trust. Yet, Nightbird so far, she seemed nice, but no one can tell if a ninja has other motives until revealed later. For now, its best to keep his guard up, and prepare himself for the next target of his past.

G1 Episode 26: Transcript
Episode Show Notes
[This can also be found on AO3!]
S: It's a Megaman rock opera and a Megaman rock opera prequel.
[ Intro Music]
O: Hello! And welcome to the Afterspark Podcast, an episode by episode recap of the Generation 1 Transformers cartoon. I'm Owls!
S: And I'm Specs!
O: And today we're gonna be talking about episode number 26: Attack of the Autobots. Let's talk about giant robots today, shall we?
S: Sure.
O: Today we open at the Ark, with the Autobots preparing something when the Decepticons attack. Prowl has a confrontation with Laserbeak.
S: Buy Prowl now, kids! He comes with a rad grappling hook accessory. You know you want it.
O: Tubular! [Laughter] Thundercracker and Skywarp shoot at Optimus and he tries to save Ratchet bridal style but the explosion throws them both face-first onto the ground.
S: No one’s having a good day here.
O: No one is having a good day here.
S: Rumble then, like, does his thing and sends Optimus and Ratchet into a crevice.
O: Elsewhere, Megatron and Starscream prepare to storm the Ark by spraying each other with invisibility spray.
S: Alright! Stuff that they'll never do anything with ever again. Does no one ever think of using these things, like, seriously? Do they ever think this stuff through?
O: We both know they don't. Soundwave is the only one capable of planning ahead and no one listens to him enough, obviously.
S: I guess, and then these two. They just walk smack-dab into the Ark.
O: The Autobots don't have any sort of scanning crap for their front door based on weight, heat signatures, something?
S: I mean, I thought they had a camera when Nightbird turns up or something. They had a camera at some point, but it looks like they just got rid of their anti-ninja floor which would have maybe helped here?
O: Possibly, but then Megatron and Starscream enter the main Teletraan-1 room and press a button, revealing two beds or recharging chambers, rather.
S: Oh, what does this tell us about the Autobots? Rather too much, I think.
O: [Laughter]
S: Megs tells Starscream to hand him the personality disrupter-
O: Oh god.
S: And then he just, like, plops the thing into the machine.
O: We’re in the Teletraan-1 room, right? Like this- this is really the plan we're going with instead of blowing it up or something?
S: Or sabotage?
O: Sabotage, yeah! I mean, I guess this is sabotage of a kind, but- but, boy in a roundabout way.
S: Everyone just wants to fuck with each other's heads, we already know that.
O: I guess. We were talking about Megatron and Starscream. It's like their MMO or their IMO- modus operandi.
S: Yes. And then these two just, you know, trot off outside and then take off. Megatron is laughing maniacally about the Autobots experiencing a “transformation” they won't expect the next time they go to sleep.
O: What is he, Freddy Krueger, now?
S: I guess?
O: [Laughter] The crossover no one asked for.
S: Well, someone might have asked for it.
O: Eh…
S: I don’t know. Back with Rumble, he's kneeling at the edge of the crevasse he created earlier wondering why he didn't hear Ratchet and Optimus hit the bottom.
O: Optimus and Ratchet come out magically flying and say, “Because we'd rather hit you!”
S: Okay.
O: It's so dumb, I can't I hate it.
S: Unfortunately, the mental image that I have of this because I don't actually remember what happens is that they’re doing side hugs as they fly out-
O: [Laughter] No, I think they both come out punching or something but I don’t remember.
S: Yes but what I’m seeing is like a side hug with punching.
O: Oh my god. [muffled laughter]
S: I’m sorry, it’s been so long.
O: It really has been awhile since we watched this.
S: And so, um, Megatron orders a retreat and the Decepticons follow suit.
O: I love that Laserbeak gets away from Prowl in like five seconds flat despite being caught by Prowl’s grapple hook thing. It really makes it seem like he was just toying with Prowl the whole time. He probably was, cuz Laserbeak is actually intelligent.
S: Yeah and distracting Prowl, or the guy who might wonder why the hell they did this seems like a smart thing to do.
O: Well, or the person who's going, “Golly, where’s Starscream and Megatron?”
S: Yeah.
O: So, yeah, go- pretty good planning, there.
S: For someone, which was probably Soundwave.
O: Or Laserbeak. I would, I think either one would be capable of this.
S: Yeah. Brawn yells that, “Soundwave didn't finish his nickel-plated knuckle sandwich,” as Soundwave flies off.
O: Say it with me kids, “Fuck Brawn.” [Laughter] Ratchet tries to chase Rumble but Rumble turns into a tape to escape his grasp. So he falls to the ground and then he turns back into a robot when Ratchet tries to pick him up off the ground and then he flies off, turning back into a tape and hopping into Soundwave’s chest.
S: And the good chunk of this is happening while Ratchet is knelt on the ground trying to pick him up in tape mode.
O: Which is just a wonderfully ridiculous sentence. Anyway, the Autobots watch the Cons fly away as the moon chills in the background.
S: And this, it honestly just looks like a magical girl anime shot for some reason.
O: Okay, I'm just like, how do you turn, like, the Transformers theme into a magical girl theme and and, uh, has that been done?
S: At this point, all that's coming to mind is, like, crossing the Transformers theme and the Sailor Moon theme.
O: I feel like Sailor Moon’s not a good fit. There's got to be a better- a better magical girl theme that's a little bit more action oriented, because you've heard- you've heard Sailor Moon, it's a love song.
S: Yeah, but the thing is I don't really watch a lot of magical girl anime, so I have a limited amount of experience.
O: Touche. I feel like Utena- crossing it with Utena would actually work better. Utena’s weird as balls, guys.
S: Yes, but I haven’t seen that yet.
O: I need to lend it to you, because it’s weird. It's, like, my kind of weird. [Laughter] Anyway, Ratchet comments that, “It's kind of weird that Megatron ran off so quickly,” but Prowl thinks that perhaps they were so quick to respond they were able to make their goal impossible to achieve.
S: Unfortunately, Prowl, you are extremely wrong here. You're so very very wrong, you're on a different continent.
O: [Laughter]
S: You're on a different planet. You're ice cold, buddy.
O: [Laughter] You can go south, you're, like, in the North Pole.
S: But Optimus just looks very squintily into the camera and says that, “Megatron always has a method to his madness.”
O: HE DOES!?!
S: Yes!
O: I think it depends on the day and the writer. Is he a moron or a genius? The world may never know!
S: How much crack is involved.
O: Also true. The next day we see the Autobots using the recharge chambers.
S: Oh, and our first victims are Ratchet and Optimus. And this honestly makes me think of- okay so the positioning of- [groans]
O: Okay, with how the beds are positioned, it looks very, very similar to- to the 50 sitcoms like, you know, the ones. Like, uh,I Love Lucy, uh, Flintstones is not a good example because they did sleep in the same bed. Just, 50’s sitcoms, yes?
S: Yeah, I Love Lucy, The Honeymooners, probably. Um. So basically because of, you know, morality codes or something they couldn't show couples sharing beds because- sex. You couldn't imply sex.
O: Basically, despite if they have children. I just can't get over that these are the ONLY two beds on the entire Ark.
S: It’s share and share alike here, I guess. All the minibots pile in. I don't know.
O: “Ah, nothing like a good recharge to give the old bolts some volts.”
S: Some pep in your step!
O: I really hope that's what they meant.
S: I don't want to debate the robot physiology HERE, okay.
O: Not here, not now, uh-huh. The stars! The stars are not aligned!
S: [Sighs] Optimus tells everybody to recharge after he hops out because they got some shit to do, man.
O: Teletraan-1 informs the Autobots of a rocket launch and Optimus orders everyone to the air force base because the Decepticons will obviously be trying to steal it.
S: [Sighs] It’s the only air force base in the continental United States, obviously. It's the only thing the Decepticons can pay any attention to.
O: Apparently, but this is not before his eyes turn red and he starts to sound real evil, though.
S: Yeah, everyone else appears to be bitten by the evil bug, too, as their eyes also start glowing.
O: We have confirmation that Optimus, Skyfire, Prowl, Bluestreak, Brawn, and Hound have been affected. Teletraan can apparently sense evil now as it blasts out about an evil presence being di-tected- di-tected? Detected!
S: Honestly, why couldn't Teletraan-1 tell there were evil presences there earlier with Megatron and Starscream, or any of the other damn times the base has been infiltrated because-
O: [Whispering] Who the fuck knows? Who the fuck knows? [Normally] Megatron appears to be talking to Teletraan-1 directly now and he kind of begins to monologue to it-
S: How the hell is he aware of any of this?
O: The personality thing had a camera/communication device on it or something?
S: Well, I mean, I guess Laserbeak could have planted cameras.
O: He's a good birb.
S: Yeah, either that or maybe he's there, considering that in the movie we see him, like, filming stuff.
O: That's also true, but we don't see him in there at least as far as the cartoon was concerned.
S: That's true, I mean, the Decepticons didn't even see what he was filming until after he turned up, went into Soundwave, and Soundwave showed them or...
O: True. However, for that matter, why the hell didn't they just send Ravage for all this? He- he can turn invisible!
S: He was off doing something else?
O: Getting a college degree? In what?
S: He's taking a course in oil painting.
O: I hate you, and I hate that this the obvious answer here (is because of you): he's getting a degree in Russian!
S: Because he's always a-rushing.
O: [Groans loudly] It's the only excuse I have for Beast Wars. It’s definitely your fault, though!
S: [Laughter] The camera pans out as Megatron blabs some more. Additional bot’s that are infected are: Ratchet, Sideswipe, and Trailbreaker. So we did cover it.
O: We did cover it. Megatron orders the Autobots to silence Teletraan and Optimus just punches the fuck out of it.
S: I guess that's one way to handle that, you can't turn it off. But, I mean, well maybe you can turn it off. But I mean, someone's gonna be real unhappy about that, later.
O: Possibly. Whoever the poor sod is that's gonna have to fix it.
S: Also, Optimus is probably gonna feel like a bit of a heel.
O: I imagine. Outside we see Bumblebee and Jazz returning back to base with Spike and Sparkplug.
S: Sparkplug was feeling very, very posh today so they took the Porsche.
O: Apparently, they've been updating Jazz's sound system.
S: I find it really funny that the humans have a better quality sound system than the giant robots.
O: Well, I mean, if high quality sound wasn't something they needed or wanted during war than it may make kind of a certain amount of sense.
S: That is a good point about, like, resource management.
O: I mean like, it wouldn't be highly on the list of priorities. Can we hear what they're saying? Yes? It's good enough.
S: Yeah, granted I don't know- Decepticons are the only ones who seem to use bugs or anything.
O: Also true. Otherwise it’s Bumblebee overheard it. [Laughter]
S: Yeah. Bumblebee overheard it or, possibly, Hound getting weird radio transmissions ‘cause I think that happened too.
O: Oh right, right when, uh, he jacked into Megatron's head.
S: Yeah.
O: He didn’t, but that’s really what it looks like.
S: It really is. He had a stupid little radar dish.
O: Pretty much.
S: Yeah, so Jazz stops and they proceed to test out those new speakers but Bumblebee’s just like, “I’m- I'm done, I'm going back to base.”
O: I love that Sparkplug complains about the volume as Bee’s driving off, too. Like, Sparkplug, like, you could have gone with Bee. [Laughter]
S: Yeah.
O: Uh, but Bee arrives back to base and somehow initially misses the giant hole punched into Teletraan-1.
S: He rolled a one on this passive perception.
O: And that’s a whiff! [Laughter]
S: He got distracted by something else.
O: [Laughter] Bluestreak?
S: Maybe. Because Bluestreak’s being all creepy here and trying to drag Bee back to bed.
O: I love that Bee’s reaction to this uh, because Bluestreak picks him up. He's like, “No, wait-” But he doesn't sound afraid, he just sounds confused.
S: Now’s not the time Bluestreak and I mean, this just makes me wonder whether, like, the other Autobots just like, occasionally pick up the minibots?
O: Yeah. Like, do they- do they carry them? Are they like, “We need a nightcap and someone to hug.” Bumblebee is very huggable, obviously!
S: I don't think Brawn would be especially-
O: No-
S: Brawn- or Huffer or Gears.
O: No,no, Brawn is going to sit in the robot playpen, for being mean to Perceptor.
S: Yeah, I don't think Brawn, Huffer, or Gears would be especially, uh, popular with that but who knows?
O: Huffer would just whine all night. He would not be fun. But Bee is very popular as a cuddle buddy. A cuddle bug if you will.
S: Yeeeeeaaaaaaah!
O: Yeeeeeaaaaaaah! [Laughter]
S: [Sighs] Jazz manages to get some rock and roll with real rocks with his new speakers.
O: Which Sparkplug calls an avalanche but wouldn't this be a rock slide?
S: I don't know, maybe he's got different parlance, but I think it would just be a rock slide. Who knows. Jazz and the two humans head back to base, arriving just as Bluestreak shoves Bee into one of the infected recharge chambers.
O: Bluestreak fires on Jazz but Jazz beans him in the crotch by throwing something.
S: What did he throw? Who knows. Do they need it later? Also, who knows. Bee seems fine, I guess? I guess the chamber didn't turn on or wasn't on that long enough but-
O: He's fine, he's not evil. Eh.
S: And Sparkplug is able to fix Teletraan-1, so I guess he's the one who regrets everything.
O: [Laughter] I hope he gives Optimus a good talking to later.
S: Yeah, and Teletraan-1 then displays a video of Megatron shoving the thing in the thing, so I guess Teletraan-1 knew?
O You couldn’t have said something sooner? You had all night, Teletraan. Really?
S: Teletraan-1 has just the shittiest priority's, I guess.
O: Apparently, Sparkplug asks how many other Autobots are infected and Teletraan-1 just says, “All of them.”
S: Those beds got an awful lot of use and Teletraan-1 has no excuses-
O: No-
S: For not telling anyone.
O: No, none excuses.
S: The Autobots crash through into- through into the air base.
O: Welcome to this 30 second interlude. Now back to Spike and Co.
S: Teletraan-1 warns them about the attack on the base and Bee and Spike drive off.
O: Ratchet and Hound are in the front of some building, under orders to retrieve the plans for the solar satellite. Inside we see a female scientist chatting on the phone.
S: She's literally the best human in this episode, and I have a question. Is this the first we’ve ever heard of the solar satellite or it's-
O: I think they might- I can't remember. I think they said it earlier in the episode when um, when teletraan one was like, “A solar satellite is going to be launched-”
S Oh, yeah, it’s to do with a launch or whatever.
O: Yeah because that's what they're launching.
S: Alright.
O: So I think Teletraan-1 might have mentioned it earlier when the Autobots were like, “Oh, we have to go there and protect it from Decepticons!” and then, “Oh no, we're actually evil right now.”
S: Okay, okay.
O: But she is definitely the best human in this episode.
S: She's alerted to the two Autobots attacking and then grabs the blueprints for satellite and books it. Meanwhile we cut to, um, evil Ratchet and Hound stooped over, stalking through the halls.
O: I love that, even, evil they aren’t just destroying everything, right now.
S: Even evil, Ratchet’s got a delicate touch.
O: Not too delicate, and he does smash through the wall slash door to get to the scientist.
S: I guess you do what you’ve got to do when you're-
O: Evil?
S: Evil or mind controlled or whatever. So the lady scientist, who’s name is Dr. Harding, breaks a window and then jumps out, cushioning her fall with a convenient table umbrella and then hoofing it off into the distance.
O: Cue scenes of destruction, as the Autobots are just breaking all of the shit back at the Air Force Base.
S: They have Optimus smashing things and shouting, “Destroy, destroy, destroy!”
O: Bee and Spike arrive on scene with Bumblebee trying to talk some sense into Prime but he gets punched in the face. He says, “Prime, it’s Bumblebee, I'm one of you're-”
S: I’m one of your whats?
O: What am I, anyway? Am I your son? Is that how this works?
S: Eh, who knows? Megs busts uh, into Mission Control like he's the freaking Kool-Aid man, you know, again, threatening a scientist who tries to stop the launch.
O: Then he destroys a bunch of computers and tells Soundwave to hack the main computer which looks suspiciously like the bank of computers he just had destroyed.
S: They wanted to- they wanted to save some money. Got to reuse that stuff. Soundwave’s just got this itty-bitty little Jack in his finger that lets him jack into the computer immediately and, honestly, I'm kind of entertained that somehow... the robots are compatible with human computer systems.
O: I mean, I wouldn't put it beyond Soundwave to have like purposely thought that far ahead-
S: Yeah-
O: Either but- but, yeah.
S: Going backwards compatible for something as primitive as a human computer-
O: In the 80’s.
S: -in the 80s.
O: Yeah.
S: Verses, they're giant robots from outer space.
O: I mean, when we could make the argument about their tech isn't super as advanced as you'd think considering maybe they've been stopped since the start of war but ehh?
S: Maybe, it's just they're like 4 million years old, at least. Who knows what tech they had and also they're obviously a hell of a lot more-
O: Tech savvy than- than humans, yes.
S: They should be. Umm, and then afterwards he espouses about how “The launch can't be stopped now and in two Earth hours they'll be on the rocket, on their way to Cybertron.”
O: So let me get this straight. You went into Mission Control, blasted a bunch of stuff that apparently didn't matter, then had Soundwave reprogram the thing so it'll go to Cybertron. Do they even have enough fuel for that? Do they know?
S: That's really what I was wondering too, or is there even going to be enough room for all of them on that considering that, you know, that sort of thing. It's like a rocket but most of that is just to convey this satellite into the upper atmosphere and then it just stays there.
O: I don’t even know if this is supposed to be manned. Like, if they were just launching a satellite I don't even know if there should have been room for people, period.
S: There shouldn't have been any sort of room there. Whatever room there might be is supposed to be, like, fuel tanks or rocket engines.
O: But, but yeah! A lot the rocket gets dropped off in pieces during liftoff. Do they know that?
S: I think they just don't give a shit. I don't know, they don't give a frag, cuz they're robots. I mean, I assume that they scope this stuff out but I don't know.
O: If Soundwave or the cassettes did recon they're gonna be fine. Seeker’s did it, they’re all going to die.
S: Yeah.
O: That- that's my take on it.
S: Back at the Ark, Sparkplug says a bunch of gobbledygook about a thing he made to revert the Autobots back to normal.
O: I call bullshit, sir. But we all know it's gonna work because that's how this show works, so carry on. Uh, Jazz simplifies this as a “goodness transfusion.”
S: Oh, Jazz, we love you, we do.
O: We do, you're great. Bluestreak gets back up and Jazz seems to think they've found their volunteer test subject.
S: How did they not tie this dude up while he was unconscious?
O: Good question, it's not like Jazz didn't have time while Sparkplug was fixing Teletraan-1 and making his goodness transfusor thing. What was he doing?
S: For that matter, why the hell didn’t Jazz just- just, like, sit on him or something, so they didn't have to- didn't have to tie him up. Or have anything to tie him up.
O: An even better question. [Laughter]
S: I don't know, they probably could have locked him in one of the recharge chambers or-
O: Something.
S: Jazz distracts Bluestreak while Sparkplug runs up and sticks the device on Bluestreak’s leg.
O: This works as Bluestreak’s optics change from red back to blue.
S: And he informs Jazz that- and Sparkplug about Megatron's orders to take the airbase and steal the plans for the satellite.
O: The three of them set forth to make more attitude adjusters. Apparently, they're not multi-use.
S: I have a number of questions, including why they're stealing the satellite plan but they're literally going to be stealing the satellite?
O: Megatron wants to cover all of his bases.
S: I guess? Maybe they wanted to like review if they're going to adjust the satellite or something-
O: I suppose.
S: I don’t know, or just make copies of it but if they have it they could just- I don’t know.
O: I don't know.
S: Meanwhile, Dr. Harding continues to be a fuckin badass, climbing into a dumpster to hide from Hound.
O: In heels. I’m pretty sure she’s in heels.
S: Yeah.
O: Seriously, I’m in love with this woman. Why isn’t she in the series more?
S: She and Carly would have gotten along well.
O: I would have loved to see that.
S: She, Carly, and Chip.
O: Yeah! Yeah! Science buddies!
S: Mm-hmm. So Dr. Harding’s, um, hiding attempt almost doesn't work as Hound begins picking up dumpsters and crushing them, but Jazz shows up just in the nick of time.
O: Sparkplug and Jazz are able to return Hound to normal but the doctor runs off and right into the still-evil Ratchet.
S: Jazz is a very on point today as he stops Ratchet just in time, as well.
O: Back at the Air Force base, the Autobots are continuing their rampage continuing to blow up all of the shit.
S: Yep, tired of watching this Bee jumps on a plane and tells Prime he'll have to destroy him, too.
O: And commercial break! Buy the toys, kids, Bumblebee’s gonna die!
S: And back to the show, Skyfire is in the air, blowing shit up.
O: I just feel really bad for him, he's gonna feel super bad if he remembers any of this when he wakes up.
S: Um-hm. Sparkplug, Dr. Harding, Jazz, Bluestreak, Hound, and Ratchet arrived on the scene. They're just collecting people-
O: Yeah, this is like the superhero movies where you have to go collect each superhero. I also kind of love that Dr. Harding was riding in Ratchet, who was tried to kill her a few minutes ago. Respect, madam, respect.
S: Yup, they see Skyfire and then Scarf- eaugh-
O: [Snorts] And then Scarfplug-
S: Sees Skyfire and Sparkplug wonders how they're going to get one of the devices way up on him. Hound offers to shoot it with his vertical beam gun.
O: Patent-pending.
S: They're able to shoot him once they get him to come a bit closer and then Skyfire returns to normal and then, now that he’s there, they load up and roll out.
O: Still the taxi service, buddy.
S: The scale is incredibly off here because Skyfire just looks like he's bigger than the Ark.
O: Big boy! Bee is still holding the ground against Optimus but gets lifted up in the air, just as the others arrive in Skyfire.
S: They show up just in time to interrupt the evil Autobots’ arts and crafts lesson.
O: With aircraft!
S: There's so much you can do with aircraft.
O: Obviously. Look! I can make pretty flowers.
S: Yeah. You can give yourself wings.
O: [Laughter] Look Optimus! I’m a Seeker!
S: Hound is able to shoot Prowl and Brawn with the personality things but misses Optimus. Who proceeds to chuck Bumblebee across the tarmac.
O: Prime splits into three, by way of his trailer, Roller, and himself. So, the Father, Son, and Holy Trailer? [Laughter]
S: Yeah.
O: Hound nails the trailer and Roller in short order.
S: They missed their chance to hit the three for one deal and now they have to get them all separately and, oh no! They're down to their last attitude exchanger.
O: They apparently only had time to make one extra.
S: I'm kind of amused by the fact that they acted- so the thing is, technically, I think they made three extras.
O: I guess you're right, because they missed with one, and then they had to hit two or- for the trailer.
S: that- four.
O: Yeah, they had- so they had to hit his trailer and Roller and then him. So you’re right. Technically, they made four.
S: Which, that is actually a pretty good margin of error, I think.
O: Yeah, I’ll give you that one. You're right, they were like, “Okay, we know this many are infected, presumably,” and then they made four extra and probably ran out of time, which, fair. Okay, fair.
S: So they- they made an attempt.
O: They did. I got to give Jazz and Sparkplug more credit here. And Bluestreak, I guess, he was helping, too.
S: Yeah. Bee yoinks the uh, remaining attitude adjuster out of Ratchet’s hands and books it on over to Optimus.
O: Optimus is able to fight the control for just long enough for Bee to get the attitude exchanger on him.
S: The Autobots realize they must stop the rocket launch to stop Megatron's plan and Dr. Harding says that it must go into orbit and that earth needs the energy that it'll supply.
O: Why didn’t the Cons just steal it from orbit?
S: Because they're dumbasses and we've got to have something so, you know, have drama here.
O: Do they not have object permanence? Like, “Oh, we can't see it anymore, it's not there anymore.”
S: I guess, I don't know they've made so many fucking spaceships at this point that they just have-
O: This shouldn't be a problem! [Wheezes] Hell, Starscream is apparently space worthy! They could have just- I don't know, waited a couple weeks and chucked Starscream into the atmosphere?
S: I imagine all the Seekers are space worthy. I mean, have we gotten to the episode where Shockwave just rides Starscream in-
O: No, not yet.
S: -in space.
O: No, no, not yet. But- but yeah like we have proof that, at least, Starscream is space worthy and presumably both the other Seekers are, too.
S: I don't think, shoot. What's-his-face? Astrotrain has come in yet but he's definitely space worthy.
O: Like, yeah, yeah! Fair, fair.
S: And we know Megatron’s space worthy.
O: Oh well, yeah, right! He can fly, why am I arguing with this?
S: Yes, he can fly and, I mean, we already saw him survive a planet explosion or whatever happened with that.
O: I would still- don't know how that worked but, uh, they all load up into Skyfire again, and head over to the rocket launch.
S: Megatron rips a door off the rocket and the Cons pile in and-
O: That's not gonna cause problems at all here, huh?
S: Oh, it should. I mean, it doesn't mean that it will.
O: This ship doesn't operate on reality... right.
S: It- Yeah, it ignores so many things.
O: It does. The rocket blasts off and Ratchet and Optimus bail out of Skyfire to land on it.
S: They, um, they're go- they're the go-team, apparently. Where's Wheeljack in this? I feel like Ratchet’s missing his buddy.
O: Wheeljack hasn't been in this entire episode so I have to assume he's taking the Dinobots somewhere, otherwise I'd assume they would have all been smashing stuff up, like with everybody else.
S: At this point, I just think Wheeljack, Perceptor, and Beachcomber took the Dinobots out for some enrichment and missed the whole thing.
O: I mean, probably just so they didn't have to fight the Dinobots uh, is why they're not in here but, uh, yeah, no, I agree with that. That's much nicer.
S: Yeah, they're all out doing swamp science or something.
O: See, I'm just imagining - they took the Dinobots to the beach.
S: [indistinct]
O: Beachcomber’s with them, right?
S: Yeah.
O: So, they're all on the beach. Uh, Wheeljack is there with whatever a robo pina colada is, uh, Perceptor’s taking sand samples, Beachcomber is corralling the Autobots- er, the- the Dinobots close to shore. It's a very, very heartwarming family vacation. So Ratchet could get a bit of a break, you know, not having to babysit the dinosaurs and then they come back and it's- it's like that gif where the guy walks into the room and everything's on fire. That- that is what Wheeljack came home to- and he's, like, “Probably a good thing I left although, boy, do I hate coming home.” [Laughter]
S: Yeah, yeah. Meg- Ratchet and Optimus have been trying to separate the rocket and the satellite so Optimus can take it into orbit and Megatron doesn’t like this plan.
O: Nevermind how this rocket is fucking GINORMOUS for some reason because the Cons are so! Tiny! [Laughter] Specs just keeps, like, shrugging in more exaggerated motions, I’m sorry you can’t see it.
S: Yeah. The other Autobots want to help but aren't sure how- with how to do it without hurting Optimus and Ratchet, until Jazz gets an idea, and I wonder what that idea’s gonna be.
O: He gets on the outside of Skyfire and I love Skyfire so much here, he's like, “Watch the first step, it's a doozy,” and, of course, all I can think of is, “Watch the first step, it's a dooooozy!”
S: And then Jazz transforms into car mode, so we have a car... riding a jet. Specifically, a Porsche riding a space jet.
O: I'm pretty sure that Skyfire’s, ah, model or whatever was not big enough to do that in Macross but alright. [Laughter]
S: Who knows? And about that Chekhov's gun or, in this case, Chekov’s speakers.
O: Jazz uses his new sound system to create a musical sonic boom.
S: Jazz weaponized music to take out a rocket.
O: Of course he did. Megatron orders the Cons to, “Abandon rocket!”
S: Ratchet and Optimus land safely on Skyfire who takes them high enough for Optimus to yeet the satellite into orbit.
O: [Laughter]
S: Honestly, why don't they just get Brawn to do this?
O: I- do we even see Brawn? Is Brawn here? I don't remember.
S: I don't know, it's just no- I mean, why don't they just hire out Brawn’s services to toss things into orbit?
O: [Laughter] Well, or, like, Perceptor. I know he's not in this episode but he's in the next episode as like- I could see Perceptor shooting something into space with an amazing degree of accuracy.
S: That’s true.
O: Probably would take less fuel, too.
S: Yeah. So, yeah, Optimus yeets the stupid satellite into orbit and it's just goofy as hell. Back at the Ark, Ratchet’s yanked out the personality displacer from the recharge stations.
O: This would not have fucking happened if you had more than two beds! In the entire Ark!
S: And if they weren't controlled by the same damn thing, like, if you had separate control systems.
O: Right, so you couldn't just shove the thing in Teletraan-1. But! Everyone decides to fight for credit for saving the day.
S: Ratchet has a fit of temper, as he does not want to share and begins to argue with Sparkplug,
O: “You wouldn’t know a microchip from a potato chip!” The Autobots know what potato chips are.
S: Well, Ratchet does, and presumably Spike has eaten potato chips in Bumblebee so he might have had to deal with-
O: -Crumbs.
S: [Laughter, indistinct] -crumbs!
O: “Hey, Ratchet, I need a good vacuum.” “You need a what!?!”
S: And we have a total on the number of Air Force jets destroyed by the Autobots.
O: Jazz says it's 47.
S: How much is that gonna cost the Autobots, anyway?
O: Nothing! Optimus says Ratchet, Sparkplug are gonna fix them!
S: Oh boy. Oh boy, oh boy. Uhhh, I’m not sure they're gonna pass muster for safety tests and Spike says that they're gonna be doing it for weeks.
O: Weeks? Just weeks!?
S: Well, I guess when you have giant alien robots doing all the heavy lifting it's not that bad but rather they shouldn’t be putting those back together, anyway. They should really just make new ones at this point because planes have a lot of safety requirements-
O: Yeeeaaaah.
S: -and stuff. Uh, I don't think anyone's gonna want to be in those planes.
O: I wouldn't blame them and join us next time for episode 27: Microbots! Get ready for a fantastic journey, into Megatron???
S: Oh, it's into a world of imagination.
O: Like nothing you’ve ever seen. Also Perceptor! It is a Perceptor episode and I am delighted.
S: Yessss.
O: Also fuck Brawn.
S: And we have some fanfic for today but I think Owls’ gets to be the one to give the recommendations.
O: So, I've mentioned this before, but I have a whole uh, sheet of fics, just in case Specs forgets to do the fics. And Specs forgot to do the fics, so I get to do it today.
S: A lot- A lot of stuff happened recently.
O: It's been a busy month, guys, it has been so busy. I am so tired. The first recommendation is “Quiet” by LittleMissSweetgrass. Continuity is IDW, the rating is G. It is slash, because it is Cosmos/Soundwave. Our characters are Soundwave and Cosmos, and “Soundwave gets a virus and suddenly it is very loud.” It's a one shot. It is part of a series. It is very short but cute and uh, Coswave is one of my favourite ships ever, which is why they got added to this because it doesn't exist in G1 and I’m well aware it doesn't exist in G1 so I was, like, look I gotta put ‘em somewhere.
O: And then our other one is “Here Be Monsters” by Lush_Specimen. Continuity is IDW, it's G, its slash, it has Hoist/Trailcutter, Rodimus/Thunderclash, and uh, Minimus Ambus/Megatron- Our characters are Megatron, Hoist, Rodimus, Thunderclash, Riptide, and Minimus Ambus. In summary, “A late-night visit from Hoist forces Megatron to confront the overwhelming personal tragedies created by his legacy of violence. As he contemplates the long reaching consequences of his words he begins to wonder if he truly deserves a second chance.” This is multi-chapter but it has been completed. Um, it's just kind of nice. I'm always- I'm always here for ah, Lost Light Megatron actually having to think about things and being forced to consider, basically, his actions. So I really like this one.
S: Nice, thank you. And that just about wraps it up for us today. Blaine Anderson:
After the night Blaine and Sebastian had spent together at the other’s place, he felt extremely guilty. He lied to Kurt about going to Sebastian’s, claiming he had spent the night with one of his girl friends that he knew from auditions. He felt awful for kissing Sebastian-- he was a married man, he cared for his husband even if Kurt really didn’t like him much anymore. Even if they weren’t happy he still knew better than to sneak around.
But on the other hand, when Blaine was with Sebastian he felt happy and that was something he hadn’t felt in a really time. He felt happy and he could feel some of his old confidence trying really hard to dig itself out from under all of the self-doubt that Kurt had shoveled on top of it over the years. So he ignored some of that guilt, promising himself he would not let it get any more out of control than it did that night, and he continued to see Sebastian. They went out the following weekend to take photos and new headshots, that only lasted Sebastian about an hour before Blaine's eyes had had enough of the bright flash coming from Sebastian's camera. He made some lame excuse to cut the photoshoot short, hoping Sebastian wouldn't really question it too much.
They finished their day off with dinner and then they decided that they would at least have dinner with each other a few times week. He couldn’t and he wouldn’t stay away from Sebastian-- he deserved to be around someone who made him feel good, who made him feel happy.
He was very excited on the days that he had a dinner date with Sebastian, he would have an extra spring in his step as he left for his auditions-- he felt he performed better, too. This day was no exception. After all of his auditions were done for the day, Blaine went home and changed his clothes, not avoiding a small argument with his husband before he made his way to Sebastian’s office building, waiting outside at his usual spot, knowing Sebastian would be down any moment. Except….he wasn’t. Checking the time on his phone, Blaine frowned a little, sighing softly. Sebastian was late. It wasn’t like him.
After twenty more minutes of waiting, Blaine got antsy and decided to go in and check on him. He went into the building, going up to the girl at the front desk, clearing his throat. “Um, hi, excuse me?” He said politely with a smile. “Could you tell me where I could find Sebastian Smythe?”
Sebastian Smythe:
Sebastian’s life had grown enriched with Blaine’s presence. After their little night together they continued to spend more time together. What Sebastian had been afraid of was all just in his head and when Blaine called him up to go out to dinner, he happily accepted. He loved spending time with Blaine and having dinner with him after work was something he always looked forward to.
The day before he and Blaine agreed to meet once more for their regular dinner date, Sebastian had been tasked by his boss to cover a minor story about a local scientist being nominated for a prestigious award. It was his first real chance to write an article! Sure, even if the piece was deemed good enough it would probably be tossed somewhere far behind the front page. Still, to be a published writer… Sebastian thought about how he consoled Blaine that night and decided to take his own optimistic advice.
He had agreed to meet with the esteemed scientist, Professor Garrick, discussing the award very briefly and snapping a few photos in his makeshift lab. He arrived on location, the interview taking place with a large skylight above them, the shelves cluttered with vials and flasks filled with multi-colored liquids. Although he was nervous, Sebastian kept Blaine in mind and did his best to be optimistic and keep cool as he dove right into the interview.
Everything happened so fast. Both interviewer and interviewee were so engrossed in their conversation that they hadn’t even heard the thundering rumbling close by. Though Sebastian was no scientist, he was genuinely interested in Professor Garrick’s achievements and progress he had made with his experiments. The nearing thunder was so loud that the building shook and just as Sebastian had opened his mouth to make a comment, a bolt of lightning crashed through the skylight and struck him down. He blacked out immediately. Sebastian remained unconscious when the paramedics arrived to take him to the hospital. The broken flasks scratched him up considerably and the bolt of lightning had created a large burn across his chest. The doctors were convinced the lightning strike had stopped his heart and were baffled as to how he hadn’t died instantaneously. Regardless for the lack of explanation, Sebastian was moved into intensive care to be closely monitored.
Without any emergency contacts, the only people that knew of his condition were his co-workers at The Observer. Professor Garrick had managed to escape the incident with only a few scratches and informed Sebastian’s supervisor that he had been rushed to the hospital. So when Blaine had arrived at the office, the girl at the front desk dropped her jaw, unsure of how to respond.
“Oh, um… Are you one of his friends?” She asked delicately, “He was in a freak accident last night-- got struck by a lightning bolt and he had to go to the hospital.” The thought of her co-worker in the hospital had her fidgeting with her fingers. “I hope he’s okay… Last I heard, he was still in the ICU. Do you know his parents’ number? The doctors were asking us if we had that information but we don’t have any idea who to contact about his condition...”
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine really couldn't believe what he had just heard. Sebastian had been struck by lightning? Who gets struck by lightning? In New York City? A cold rush of worry washed over his entire body. "He-he what?" He shook his head a little, his first instinct was to get there. Get to Sebastian. He nodded quickly. "Yes, I'm an old friend. I'll call his parents." He said in a rush before asking which hospital he was at, rushing out the door before she could even finish.
He didn't bother calling a cab- he needed to get there now. So he checked his surroundings quickly before disappearing off into one of the nearest vacant alleyways. He knew it was a little dangerous to fly during the day but it was so close to dusk that he could get away with it. All it took was one good jump and he was airborne, shooting up through the air and over the buildings. Thankfully he could fly fast enough and he was so far up that if anyone noticed him at all they would just assume it was a giant bird. The thought always made him snicker because of his chosen name.
He was at the hospital in less than a minute and because he flew; he landed on the roof. He slipped inside the door and down the stairs unnoticed, thankfully he had learned to sneak around dark shadows very well. And when he did run into people, he could charm them into letting him go. He rushed down the stairs, listening very hard to see if he could hear where Sebastian was. When he finally got down the the ICU level of the hospital, he heard Sebastian's name through all of the murmuring of the doctors in the floor.
He rushed down to the room Sebastian was in, catching the nurse as she was leaving. It took some charming and a white lie for him to be allowed to see Sebastian but it worked and he went through the door.
"Seb," He said, his breath barely heavy from the running he had done in the hospital. His stomach churned as he saw him lying there in that hospital bed, the worst kind of thoughts running through his mind as he got closer. He started to get a little teary eyed, coming up to Sebastian's bed, careful not to touch him yet. "Sebastian?" He whispered.
Sebastian Smythe:
Sebastian had been unconscious since he had been struck by lightning and the sound of Blaine’s voice hadn’t been enough to wake him up. His chest was exposed, many wires connected to his chest and head with electrodes. An EKG machine spit out rows of jagged lines, displaying his heart activity while the EEG machine next to it did the same for his brain. There was an oxygen mask covering most of his face, helping him to breathe. Spread across his bare chest were bandages that covered a nasty, bloody wound; though it was covered up, the smell of burnt flesh was still prominent.
“Who are you?” A doctor approached Blaine from behind, pulling the chart from Sebastian’s bed before he looked over the machines’ results. “Are you a family member of his or something?” The doctor eyed Blaine suspiciously, wondering how he gained access into the intensive care unit. He could tell from the look on Blaine’s face that he was obviously worried about the patient. “Well, whoever you are, you shouldn’t be here to see him like this… He’s not stable and his heart--” Before the doctor could finish his sentence, the EKG machine started beeping erratically and the doctor shouted out “Code Blue” which summoned an entire team of doctors and nurses to rush around Sebastian’s bed. Blaine was forced away and a nurse approached Blaine, gently escorting him back so the medical team had room to work.
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine sniffled softly, still not touching Sebastian, he was scared to. He didn’t look good at all, it made Blaine feel like he was going to throw up-- he had never seen something like this before, and he had seen a lot. He had no idea the survival rate of someone who had been struck by lightning-- surely it was okay? Surely he would be fine? He was freaking out on the inside as his eyes welled up with more tears. “Oh, Seb.” He sniffled. “C’mon, you have to be okay. We just found each other again.” He whispered softly, his words and train of thought were interrupted by the doctor.
“Oh,” He sniffled, taking a step back, nodding quickly. “Yeah, I’m-I’m his husband.” He lied, knowing he wouldn’t be allowed in otherwise. He realized then that he could’ve claimed to be his brother but they didn’t look anything alike at all. It wasn’t important-- he just needed to be allowed in the room. “I-I was so worried about him, I just need to see him, I’m sorry.” He wasn’t sorry at all, though. “Is he going to be okay?” He asked but then one of the machines Sebastian was hooked up to started making an awful noise. “Wha-” Everyone started rushing around him he looked over at Sebastian, looking at the nurse that was guiding him out of the way. “What’s going on?” He glanced over at the the machine and then back at her, his forehead wrinkled with worry.
He knew whatever was happening wasn’t good, judging by the way people were rushing around and speaking and the loud beeping coming from Sebastian’s machine. He looked at the nurse, his body trembling slightly. He felt very overcome with fear, he just got Sebastian back. He couldn’t lose him.
Sebastian Smythe:
The medical team had their hands full with Sebastian. The EKG machine continued to flatline and it seemed that the young man’s body was shutting down. Whether it was from the shock or that his internal organs were failing, they weren’t sure how they could help. A doctor brought out a defibrillator and they attempted to restart his heart. It wasn’t until after Sebastian’s condition was determined stable when the doctor from earlier addressed Blaine. “So, you said you were his husband?” He asked, massaging the bridge of his nose. “I’ll be frank with you, Mr. Smythe, “ the doctor started, flipping through Sebastian’s chart, “It doesn’t look good; He was struck by a bolt of lightning and when the paramedics brought him here, he was barely alive. His condition is declining and every time we think he’s stabilized, he flatlines. What’s astonishing is that even when his heart stops beating, his brain activity is off the charts. It’s just-- I-- It’s unexplainable; I don’t know how to treat him.”
Sebastian continued to lie plane on the hospital bed, unaware of his surroundings. It was unknown to everyone in the hospital how long he would be asleep and both his mental and physical condition remained undetermined. It was very plausible that he could be a vegetable for the rest of his life. Eventually, Sebastian was moved out of the ICU and into a private room. His heart still needed to be restarted and when Sebastian started suffering seizures, it only made the doctors more perplexed with his condition.
Three weeks after the incident-- three weeks of restarting Sebastian’s heart over and over again while having no clue what else to do-- there was discussion of a DNR order. If Blaine thought it was the right thing to do, they would stop trying to restart Sebastian’s heart and let nature take its course.
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine cried really hard that night, harder than he did when he realized his marriage was failing, harder than he did in a really, really long time. He didn’t leave the hospital, either. Not even for a moment-- he struggled with himself on the day of his big callback, thinking that if he didn’t go, whenever Sebastian woke up he would be really upset with him. But on the other hand if Sebastian woke up or if the worst happened while he was gone, he would never forgive himself. So he went and he felt like he did horribly because his mind was preoccupied. Judging by the casting director's face, he wasn't too impressed. He rushed back to the hospital immediately after.
He stayed as close as they would let him get, never leaving. He texted Kurt and made excuse after excuse, thankfully Kurt no longer cared so it was easy to get away with. He called Sebastian's parents but their answering machine said they were in Paris and wouldn’t be able to be reached until they came back.
So when it came time for the choice of the DNR option, and since he had lied about being married to Sebastian, it was his choice. He honestly didn't know Sebastian's stance on the subject and he didn't really care either, he was going to be selfish and he decided against the DNR. He waited and he waited and he waited, praying multiple times every day that he would wake up.
He wished he had some sort of power that would help Sebastian but he didn't; he felt powerless, helpless.
Sebastian Smythe:
The medical staff continued to resuscitate Sebastian whenever they needed, as instructed by Blaine. Though they warned that constantly restarting his heart continued to cause strain to Sebastian’s body and might cause later issues with his brain, they kept up with it.
Days more of waiting and seeing what would happen passed, and before anyone realized it, January became February. Sebastian had been asleep for nearly a month and Valentine’s Day was right around the corner. It was a rainy afternoon when the sound of a weak, quiet voice broke through the silence of the dreary hospital room. “...Blaine?” Sebastian opened his eyes after having been asleep for weeks, the only familiar thing in his blurry view was his friend’s figure. Sebastian awoke groggy and weak, he felt like his heart was about to pound out of his chest. As he blinked to correct his focus, Blaine’s worried face came into view. “Where..?” He mumbled, unaware of what had happened or his surroundings.
Strangely enough, Sebastian didn’t feel terrible. His chest didn’t hurt from where the lightning had struck him and he felt well enough to get out of bed, even. But first he had to address his best friend and figure out what exactly had happened to him. “Where am I…?”
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine continued to stay at the hospital, he hadn’t slept at home since Sebastian had been there and he had barely left for longer than an hour on some days when he had to run an errand or two. He hadn’t spoken to Kurt except a text message once a day to let him know he wouldn’t be home again for whatever stupid reason. As far as Kurt knew, Blaine had been staying with a friend, going to Ohio for a visit, or any of the other lies he had come up with. He knew Kurt didn’t care, he didn’t really know why he bothered to lie. Or at least he thought Kurt didn’t care.
It was the last week in January and he received a text message from Kurt, unprompted. He raised his eyebrows when he heard his husband’s text tone in the middle of the night, sitting up a little in his chair to reach for his phone. He swiped his finger across the screen to unlock it, tapping on the envelope icon to open up Kurt’s message. It was long and wordy; he apologized to Blaine for the first time ever. He begged, pleaded. “Please, I want to try again. Let’s try to fix this.” Blaine sighed heavily, leaning back and running his face over his hands. Kurt wanted to meet on Valentine’s Day-- have a date. The thought made Blaine queasy, he knew exactly how the night would go. Kurt would be nice for all of ten minutes, Blaine would say something that pissed him off and they would fight in the middle of the restaurant. He didn’t reply at first, thinking he might not and wait until the next day, but then his phone chimed again. “Blaine, please. I miss you.” He closed his eyes and let out a long, deep sigh. Texting back an “Okay.” before tossing his phone over to the chair next to him. He wasn’t sure if he really meant that or not-- because he didn’t know if Sebastian would wake up before then.
He thought about the text message a lot over the next few days, fighting with himself over it. He read it over and over and over again until he pretty much memorized it, he didn’t really need to read it again. He thought about their relationship and how much better he had felt spending time away from him-- how happy he was those days that he spent with Sebastian, how he always dreaded going home every day. Maybe he and Kurt were fighting a losing battle. Maybe they were done. He and Kurt never were really right for each other-- there were things he didn’t know about Kurt and definitely things Kurt didn’t know about Blaine. He had no idea about Blaine’s little giant secret, and he never would.
Blaine was exhausted. He was so tired and anxious with Sebastian in the hospital and now with this new pressure put on him by Kurt-- not to mention the chaos that had ensued without him out patrolling the city every night-- big black letters on the front page of the newspapers asked where he was. He only showed up when it was desperately needed-- muggings, and if someone were in danger of being seriously hurt. He let small robberies, and crimes where people weren’t harmed go. Sebastian needed him more than the city did. He felt extremely guilty but he would make it up to everyone when he got back into the game.
He was just sitting there that day, sighing heavily as he read an article that was speculating what had happened to him. He laughed at some of the more ridiculous ones-- like maybe a giant cat had eaten him. People were silly. He tossed the paper aside and let out a soft sigh, looking over at his friend still just lying there fighting for his life. A worried wrinkle settled in his forehead, he willed Sebastian to wake up-- he needed him to. He needed him. He wasn’t ready to let go just yet now that they had just gotten back in touch.
His heart jumped up into his throat when he heard Sebastian’s voice, quickly going to his side and taking his hand. “Oh my god, Sebastian.” He said softly, his eyes welling up a little, he had waited for this moment for a really long time. After thinking he might lose him for good, it was music to his ears. “Hi,” He whispered, running his hand over Sebastian’s hair gently. “You’re in the hospital. God, I knew you would be okay. I knew you would pull through.” He smiled, chuckling and sniffling softly. “They wanted me to give up but I didn’t. I couldn’t give up on you.” He rambled a little, realizing that it probably would be a better idea to be calm and tell Sebastian what had happened. He took a soft breath to calm himself before calmly speaking to his friend. “You- you were struck by lightning, Seb.”
Sebastian Smythe:
Sebastian blinked his eyes a few more times, groaning as he tried to sit up. “Hospital?” He parroted back to his friend, panic and adrenaline running through him as the realization set in. His eyes grew wide like saucers when he heard the word “lightning”. It sounded absolutely incredulous that that could even be possible. He pressed his hand over his chest and a phantom pain ran through him as the memory of looking up through Professor Garrick’s skylight flashed before his eyes. The heart monitor he was hooked up to was blinking red yet it didn’t beep loudly like it did when it flatlined. His heart rate was 160 beats per minute and climbing.
“I… I was struck by lightning? How does that even happen? How am I alive?” Sebastian had a million questions for Blaine, his chest heaving with short breaths as his brain felt scrambled. Getting a closer look at his friend, he noticed the man look very tired; his hair was a little disheveled and there were distinct bags under his eyes. He felt Blaine’s hand over his hair and grabbed for it, desperate for the physical touch as he tried to wrap his head around what had happened. “H-How long have you been here? How long have I been out?”
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine got a little closer, trying to help Sebastian sit up carefully, moving his pillows a little more to help support him. “Y-yeah,” He nodded softly, suddenly unsure if he should have told the other what had happened yet or not, not really thinking clearly at the moment. “I-I don’t really know how it happened, but it happened. They didn’t think you were going to make it.” He looked down a little, sighing, his forehead wrinkling a little as his eyes got a little watery-- he was so relieved that Sebastian was awake.
“I-I didn’t know if you were going to be okay.” He sniffled softly, fiddling with Sebastian’s sheets a little. “You’ve been out for a few weeks.” He spoke carefully, even though it didn’t really matter how carefully he spoke, it wasn’t going to soften the blow that he had been in a coma for practically a month. “I’ve been here almost the whole time. I haven’t left except for less than a handful of times.” He said, glancing over to Sebastian’s heart monitor, his forehead wrinkling a little bit at how fast his heart was beating.
“H-hey,” He said, placing his hand on Sebastian’s. “Calm down, handsome. Let-let me go get the nurse, okay?” He gave the taller’s hand a squeeze before quickly going to the door, peeking out and grabbing the first nurse he could find, alerting them that Sebastian was awake.
Sebastian Smythe:
Sebastian sat there with a dumbfounded look on his face, still trying to figure out what happened to him. He felt fine and he was going to insist so to the doctors so he could get the hell out of that hospital. He frowned when Blaine told him that he had been out for weeks and his frown only deepened when he learned Blaine had been by his bedside for a majority of the time. Though the sentiment warmed his heart, he thought first of Blaine and he knew that the other man should’ve been focusing on auditions and his callback. Before Sebastian had a chance to ask anymore questions, Blaine was dashing out the door to fetch a nurse.
He and a nurse both returned fairly quickly and the nurse seemed both astonished and worried that Sebastian was sitting up. She looked at the heart monitor and the color drained from her face. “How do you feel?” She asked, an unsure tone in her voice as she waved a small flashlight into Sebastian’s eyes to check his pupils. “Dizziness? Pain? Anything?” She pressed the call button to page the doctor, knowing that though she was a perfectly capable nurse, she was way out of her depth with Sebastian’s case. “Do you feel light-headed at all?”
“I’m fine, I guess,” Sebastian murmured, his eyes wandering from the nurse back to his friend to seek reassurance. “A little disoriented since I’ve been out for weeks, apparently. I’d really like to know what exactly I missed,” then he pointed to his friend, “And about that callback of yours.”
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine hurried back with the nurse, it being second nature now to take a step back whenever there was a nurse or a doctor in the room so they could do their job and help Sebastian heal quicker. He looked at Sebastian as he pointed to him, chuckling softly. Of course he would be concerned with that rather than his health.
“C’mon, Seb.” He said with a fond smile. “Let them check you out a little and I’ll catch you up when we are alone again.” He assured him. He dreaded catching him up on the developments in his married life, but he knew Sebastian would be happy to hear that he left him at least long enough for his callback. Blaine crossed his arms, biting on his lip a little as the doctor came in, trying to pay close attention to what they were speaking about, deciding it would be okay to go to Sebastian’s free side and hold his hand.
Sebastian Smythe:
The doctor entered the room and went over a general exam to gauge Sebastian’s awareness and recollection. His mental health seemed to be normal; Sebastian remembered his name and birth date though it seemed to the doctor that there was only one setback and that was his recollection of his apparent husband. “And can you tell me who this person here is?” The doctor asked, pointing at Blaine. Sebastian looked up at his friend with a bright smile.
“Well, of course I do; This is my very special friend, Blaine Anderson.” Sebastian answered, giving the other’s hand a light squeeze. When the doctor asked how he knew Blaine, Sebastian didn’t quite know how to answer. “Uh, well, he and I met at Dalton Academy when we were both in high school.” When the doctor motioned to emphasize further, Sebastian shook his head slightly and looked at his friend with confusion.
The doctor furrowed his brow. “You don’t remember that you and Mr. Anderson are married?”
Sebastian’s eyes grew wide and he was suddenly extremely lost. Married? “Jesus, how long was I out? I thought you said it was a few weeks--” When he looked over at his friend, equally wide-eyed, he read panic and picked up on the very slight shake of his head. It only took Sebastian another moment to put two and two together. Of course Blaine would have to have been related to Sebastian somehow to have stayed as long as he did. “Oh, shit, right-- Of course, how could I forget that Blaine is my betrothed. Yes, he and I are married and live together. I can even tell you our address to corroborate. I promise, I remember.”
The doctor eyed the two boys suspiciously but continued on with his exam, moving onto the physical part of it. Loosening his hospital robe, Sebastian had his chest exposed and was able to look down at the large scar across his chest. “For the most part, your injuries healed with only that one scar to remember the experience; you had many scrapes and scratches since the skylight above you shattered when the lightning struck but those healed without much mark.” The doctor explained, examining the scar before listening to Sebastian’s breathing with his stethoscope. Sebastian felt like he was put under the spotlight, not having been that exposed in front of Blaine in a very long time. Though he couldn’t say anything about it, not wanting to raise any more red flags for the medical staff. “I’d like to keep you overnight for observation and if you’re feeling well in the morning, I don’t see why we can’t discharge you as long as you come back for a follow-up. Your heart rate is extremely fast and I’d like to monitor that.”
Sebastian begrudgingly agreed and the medical staff left the two men alone. Sebastian put his arms back into his robe’s sleeves before settling back in his hospital bed. “So… We’re married, hm? Clever little lie you told to get yourself into the Cool Kid’s Club here,” Sebastian chuckled, speaking quietly enough that no one outside could hear him.
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine stayed close to Sebastian as the doctor asked him the obvious questions, raising his eyebrows when the doctor pointed towards him and he felt a slight wave of panic to run through him. He hadn’t even thought about the doctor bringing up the fact that he and Sebastian were ‘married’, of course Sebastian wasn’t going to remember that, it wasn’t even a real thing. His eyes widened a little bit and he looked at Sebastian, nodding and giving him the international signal for ‘Just go with it!’. Sebastian was smart enough, he knew he would figure it out on his own. He smiled at the other, squeezing his hand gently. “See?” He glanced at the doctor when he eyed him, nodding. “Married.”
He exhaled heavily when the doctor left, sitting back in his chair next to Sebastian’s bed, chuckling as the taller teased him. He shook his head, blushing slightly. “I-I’m sorry.” He grinned a little, biting his lip. “I panicked and said the first thing that popped into my head.” He said, looking at the other, still smiling a little, he was so happy to see him awake and okay. “Don’t worry, we can get a divorce as soon as you get out of here.” He teased, winking at his friend.
Blaine looked at Sebastian for a moment, taking a deep breath of relief. “I’m so happy you’re awake, Seb.” He shook his head, scooting his chair closer. “I was so worried about you-- they weren’t sure you were going to make it. They even wanted me to sign a DNR.” He frowned slightly, shaking his head once more. “I-I’m sorry, I don’t know what your views are on that but I couldn’t do it. And it was my choice since we’re “married” and your parents weren’t here-- which, by the way, I tried to call them but they’re in Paris and unreachable.” He rambled on a little bit-- the not really talking to anyone in weeks thing catching up to him, that and he didn’t want to tell Sebastian yet about Kurt’s text messages. “How-how are you feeling? Okay?”
Sebastian Smythe:
“Well, I’m glad that you told that lie. I don’t know what I would’ve done if I woke up in the hospital by myself. Have you been here the whole time I’ve been out? What a devoted husband,” Sebastian chuckled and smiled at his good friend. “I hope you didn’t bail on your callback because of me.”
He took Blaine’s hand, squeezing it reassuringly. “A DNR form? As in-- ‘do not resuscitate’? Jeez, I’m sorry you had to deal with that; Even though it’s kind of morbid, I’m really grateful that you didn’t let me die. Thank you, Blaine. I really appreciate you, y’know.” He smiled gently and then chuckled to himself, “Man… I’m going to think up something amazing to make this up to you.”
Sebastian took a breath and paid attention to his how he felt. He didn’t need the heart monitor to tell him that his heart was beating unusually fast but he was didn’t feel in pain at all. In fact, it didn’t even feel like he had been struck by lightning. “I honestly feel perfectly fine; maybe a little light-headed from being asleep for so long.” He chuckled and turned his head a bit to the side to nuzzle against the pillows. “How are you feeling? You look like you could use more rest than me; I think you ought to climb into bed with me. I know I’d certainly feel better about it, anyway.” He tugged on Blaine’s hand, pulling him closer as the snarky little grin on his face he usually had grew wider.
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine smiled sweetly at his friend, shrugging a little with a nod. “Yeah, I’ve been here the whole time. I only left if I absolutely needed to-- mostly had food delivered. I did leave the day of the audition, though.” He said, looking at Sebastian. “I knew you would be pretty upset with me if I missed it.” He chuckled softly, biting on his lip. “But other than that I’ve been here the whole time-- I was scared that if I left you would…” He trailed off, not wanting to say the words to finish his sentence.
He nodded again when Sebastian asked about the do not resuscitate option, looking down and sighing, running his thumb over the taller’s hand. “Yeah, I-I couldn’t let them stop. I didn’t want to lose you again.” He said, looking into Sebastian’s eyes. A grin spread across his face as Sebastian pulled him closer, shaking his head. “Well, if it will make you feel better.” He said as he gave in, carefully climbing into the hospital bed next to his friend. He cuddled close to Sebastian, slipping his arm around his waist tightly, burying his face against his neck, careful to not put too much pressure against his chest. He took a deep breath. It felt nice to breathe him in even though his usual scent was very faint, being washed out by the harsh clean, hospital smell.
“Mm,” He closed his eyes, sighing softly. “I’m feeling okay. I’m kind of tired but I’m okay. I’m glad that you’re feeling good, though. I was really worried about you. I missed you.” He said softly, tilting his head up to look at his friend, smiling softly. “No more getting stuck by lightning or getting hurt at all, okay?”
Sebastian Smythe:
“I’m sorry that I made you worry; I promise I’m not going anywhere and that you’re not going to lose me. I’m here.” Sebastian carefully shuffled to the side to make room for Blaine. The single hospital bed didn’t allow for much space to occupy the both of them but neither one of them seemed to mind at all. It was nice to have Blaine so close again and having been out for the past couple of weeks, Sebastian felt like he was exactly where he belonged with Blaine right beside him. He closed his eyes and allowed himself to breathe his friend in. “And I promise no more getting struck by lightning again,” Sebastian chuckled, “Maybe the next time something crazy happens to me, it’ll just be me winning the lottery.”
A quiet moment passed where they both just enjoyed each other’s physical touch and closeness. Sebastian broke said silence by bringing up the callback; he hoped that by resuming normal conversation it would continue to put Blaine at ease that he was still his regular self and he’d forget all this trauma. “So how did your callback go? Did they totally love you and hand you the part on a silver platter like I said they were going to do? Oh, we definitely have to go out and celebrate!” Sebastian became visibly enthusiastic, even going so far to mention celebrating on Blaine’s opening night. “You have to get me tickets to this thing on opening night so I can be among the first to see how awesome you’re going to be.”
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine chuckled, raising his eyebrows. “Yeah, please win the lottery. And please share because, I need a new apartment that doesn’t come with Cinderella’s mice.” He teased with a little more laughter as he nuzzled a little more against Sebastian, really enjoying the feeling of being close to him. It was nice to feel so comfortable after being so stressed for so long.
He looked at Sebastian again, the way he spoke of Blaine and his callback making him grin from ear to ear, even blush a bit. It felt really good to have someone support him so much, no one had ever believed in him as much as Sebastian did-- no one had ever said the things to him that Sebastian did. It was extremely nice to hear and it made him feel good. The kindness and support made him fall a bit harder for the other even if he wouldn’t admit it out loud.
“My callback went okay.” He sighed, shrugging. “So, I don’t know. I’m supposed to hear about it soon. Hopefully I was good enough for something but I don’t feel too confident about it-- I don’t feel as if I did the best that I could at both the acting and singing portions of the audition-- I feel like I did really horribly at the dancing audition but who knows. Maybe I’ll get lucky but I’m not getting my hopes up.” He said, Kurt’s words running through his mind. “I promise I’ll always get you a ticket to anything I’m ever in.” He smiled sweetly. “It’s the least I could do for my biggest fan.” He said, giving a slight wink, crinkling his nose slightly.
Blaine’s nice little moment with Sebastian was interrupted briefly by the sound of his phone going off a few times right in a row-- he knew it had to have been Kurt texting him again. His phone hadn’t gone off that much in a while-- especially since he hadn’t been jumping to save every little thing in the city. The thought that it might be Sam hadn’t crossed his mind considering he knew that Sam knew not to bother him with minor problems-- to only alert him if something major was happening. Blaine sighed heavily, his body rejecting the thought of getting up to check his phone. “Ugh,” He groaned. “My husband has finally noticed my lack of presence apparently.”
Sebastian Smythe:
“I don’t need to win the lottery to get you a new apartment; just come move in with me and all your problems are solved!” Sebastian scoffed and laughed, joking with his friend. Though to Sebastian no time seemed to pass since the last time he’d seen Blaine, it always put him in good spirits whenever they were able to joke around and be in each other’s company. Though his invitation passed as a joke, he truly wished Blaine would come to the light and see that he would be better off moving in with him instead of staying with Kurt in their sad apartment.
Sebastian rolled his eyes at Blaine’s lack of confidence. “You probably did better than you think you did. A few weeks without me has probably been Hell for you; I can only imaging Kurt has been force-feeding you his usual shit this whole time.” He hated how much Kurt got onto him and countlessly put him down. Sebastian’s memory hadn’t been affected by the lightning incident and he could recall Blaine complaining whenever they were at dinner. “I’m surprised he’s even texted you; I still remember there were some nights when we stayed out really late and he never cared to even text to ask where you were. Now he’s texting you in the middle of the day?” Sebastian was confused as to why Kurt was suddenly interested in Blaine again and it immediately made him wonder if perhaps something had happened while he was out.
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine shrugged a little bit as Sebastian rolled his eyes, he hadn’t really spoken much to Kurt about anything at all, so he hadn’t been subjected to the usual abuse he dealt with daily in a while. But he realized that he didn’t have to be around Kurt to hear his voice in his head every day and he really hated it. “Well,” He started, sighing softly. “I haven’t really spoken much to Kurt, and I haven’t been home, so the only thing I’ve been hearing is his voice in my head telling me I suck. He hasn’t had the pleasure of actually telling me since you’ve been in here.” He said, looking at the taller. “I’ve only spoken to him a few times here and there to let him know that I wouldn’t be home.”
He bit on his lip gently, sighing heavily as he sat up a little, leaning on his arm and looking at Sebastian. “He also texted me last night.” He said carefully, part of him not really wanting to tell the other about what Kurt had to say. “He...he wants to go out for Valentine’s. Try to see what’s still there.” He chewed on the inside of his cheek looking down and fiddling with the sheet a little bit. “I..I don’t know if I want to or not, honestly.”
When his phone went off again a couple of times he decided he should probably check it. He reluctantly got up out of the bed with a groan. “I think with me being gone so much lately had made him start to realize how unfairly he’s been treating me.” He said, grabbing his phone out of his bag. “He even apologized to me.”
Sebastian Smythe:
Hearing that Kurt had asked Blaine out on a date had thrown Sebastian for a loop. Of course the two were married but the way that Blaine had been treated lately had given Sebastian the impression that they were on a course towards divorce. Sebastian wanted what was best for Blaine and he knew that he was infinitely better than his so-called husband. Still, he wanted to be a good friend and if Blaine’s marriage was salvageable and Kurt was genuinely trying, then he hoped that they could work things out. The devilish and selfish side of Sebastian would find some way to sabotage their relationship further but with Kurt reaching out maybe it was the opportunity that Blaine and Kurt’s relationship needed to get back on the right track. “He wants to take you out, hm? Seems like he finally realized what he’s missing out on. Y’know, people are stupid and don’t realize what they’ve lost until after they’ve lost it; maybe with you spending all your time here, he’s finally come to his senses. You might as well give the little elf another chance-- better you go for it than not and spend the rest of forever wondering what could’ve been had you gone.”
Though his tone wasn’t very enthused-- it was no secret that Sebastian didn’t care for Kurt at all-- Sebastian spoke with a calm expression on his face and made sure he sounded sincere. “I can’t stand the guy but y’know… he’s your husband-- your actual husband.” Sebastian shot Blaine his usual smirk to relieve some of the seriousness in the air between them. “Just remember that whatever happens, I’m always right here when you need me. And I’ll actually be here this time; no more unconsciousness from me. I promised, right?”
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine chuckled softly, shaking his head as he grinned from ear to ear when Sebastian smirked at him. “Well,” He scoffed slightly as he swiped his thumb across his phone to unlock it. “Between you and me, you’ve been a better husband while you’ve been unconscious than he has the past three years.” He muttered, trailing off a little as his eyes fell to his phone, noticing the texts that were blowing up his phone weren’t from Kurt but they were from Sam.
He was apologetic about bothering Blaine, but he figured that Blaine would like to know that there was an invisible terror running around causing a commotion at a nearby bank. He sighed heavily, rolling his eyes and mumbling to himself. “How cliche.” He had been ignoring the small crimes that had been happening around the city ever since Sebastian had been in the hospital, he only left if lives were in danger. He thought about skipping this one too until he scrolled further to read on, seeing that there were hostages. Sam also encouraged him not to ignore this one even if it was during the day, the city was starting to notice that their hero hadn’t been flying around at night keeping them safe from harm’s way. He needed to pick back up or they were going to turn against him most likely.
He went back and forth in his head for a few moments, chewing on the inside of his cheek. He glanced at Sebastian before looking at his phone again, letting a sigh escape through his lips, sending Sam a text letting him know he was on it. He decided that his blonde friend was probably right-- he had been neglecting his duty for far too long. He felt uncomfortable about leaving Sebastian even though he was awake and okay but he knew that he had to. He shoved his phone in his pocket, suddenly in a big rush. “Hey- uh,” He thought quickly of an excuse as he went over to give Sebastian’s hand a squeeze. “I will be back tonight, okay? I have to go meet a couple of people about the audition. I’ll bring back your favorite food or something.” He leaned down to kiss the taller’s head gently. “Stay awake, kay? Love you, bye! ” He said before rushing out of the room, making his way quickly and unnoticed to the roof where he safely transformed from his regular clothes - discarding them behind one of the air conditioners on the roof - to his suit, slipping his mask on his face as he jumped from the hospital to the neighboring roof.
Sebastian Smythe:
Sebastian watched Blaine curiously, unsure what to make of the other man scrolling through his phone. With his phone receiving so many texts suddenly, it made Sebastian think that perhaps something bad had happened. It wasn’t until Blaine spoke with him, clearly distraught and troubled, that Sebastian concluded something was definitely amiss. “Is-- Is something wrong?” Sebastian tried to ask but before he could really get a word in edgewise, Blaine was already out the door. Sebastian stay put in his hospital bed, the top of his head tingling from where Blaine had just kissed him. “Love you too…” He replied, though Blaine was already well out of earshot.
While Blaine was gone, Sebastian was able to arrange for a nurse to bring him his mobile phone and he thanked God that it wasn’t entirely broken, though he made a mental note to get a new one because the screen was cracked. He called his boss to let him know he was now awake and made arrangements to go back to work fairly soon though everyone seemed to be able to manage without him just fine. Sebastian didn’t know if that was a good or a bad thing; he knew he wasn’t an integral part of the team but he was at least grateful his job wasn’t in jeopardy due to his recent trauma.
Sebastian continued to wait for Blaine and he passed the time by watching TV, channel surfing until a certain live news story caught his attention. Apparently there was a bank robbery with a hostage situation, and someone had spotted a cloaked being soaring over rooftops. Sebastian knew in an instant it had to have been the same caped crusader that helped fight crime at night. It was rare to see him during the daytime and Sebastian wished he was well enough to grab his camera and take pictures for the newspaper.
Knowing that the bank wasn’t too far from here, Sebastian decided to text Blaine to see if maybe he was close enough to the commotion to know what was happening. Did you hear on the news that that bird guy is at the bank? Also, bring back pizza please.
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine reached the bank in a matter of seconds- it felt extremely good to be out and to metaphorically spread his wings. He busted through the doors of the bank and everyone gasped, and murmurs of relief hummed in the air-- While he did what he did not for himself but for others and to keep them safe, he had to admit that moments like this were extremely good for his ego. It never got old to feel needed.
Blaine immediately knew who he was dealing with when he arrived at the bank. It may have been a while since he had been in the game but with the lights flickering and the report of an invisible figure, he knew exactly who it was. His very own arch nemesis. “Really? A bank robbery with hostages?” He said out loud, eyeing the room carefully, chuckling and shaking his head. “Oh, Doctor Light. Been watching too much television lately? Don't you think this is a bit cliche?” He asked, giving the people around him a gentle nod to let them know that he was going to handle this and that they'd be okay.
He felt extra confident in fighting her on this particular day because since he was called to action during the day, he had a special mask to block out the bright light so his enemy didn't have an advantage over him. And it was helpful because with the mask he could just vaguely make out the outline of the villain. It took him no longer than twenty minutes to get all of the people out of the bank safely all whilst trying to fend off his enemy, pleased that it seemed to throw the other off that Blaine wasn't too bothered by the lights she was trying to manipulate to throw him off his game.
Unfortunately by the time Blaine had the people out of the bank, Doctor Light had gotten away, not taking a single dollar with her. As he stood there in the now empty bank, Blaine was completely puzzled by this fact. Why was she holding people hostage if she wasn't trying to take the money? He was distracted from his thoughts by a tug on his cape. He turned around to see a little girl with loose curly blonde hair, looking up at him with big blue eyes. “Thank you for saving us, Nightbird.” She said in her sweet little voice, handing him a sucker that she must've gotten from one of the bank tellers before all hell broke loose. He smiled, glancing around to see no one else but her inside the huge bank. He bent down to hug her tight, picking her up.
“No problem at all, princess. Now let's find your mommy.” He said, tapping her nose gently as she giggled. He walked over to the windows, looking out. He didn't really like to interact with people as Nightbird, he liked being as anonymous as possible. When the little girl pointed out her mother he quickly went outside to hand her over, saying a soft “You're welcome” when the mother thanked him before he took a giant leap and flew up to the top of the building just out of sight. He took a moment to check his phone, grinning to himself and chuckling as he saw Sebastian asking about “that bird guy at the bank”. He chewed on the inside of his cheek as he weighed his options, he could either go all the way back to the hospital and change his clothes and go all the way to the pizza place and back or he could just call it in and pick it up as is and break his rule again of interacting with people, he wanted to get back to the hospital as soon as possible to check on Sebastian. He quickly made his way to the pizza place after calling in the order, tipping the pizza guys extra to keep it quiet that he had been there and he quickly flew back to the hospital roof, changing back into himself and making his way to Sebastian’s room.
“Hey handsome, pizza delivery.” He said as he came into his friend’s hospital room, smiling at him brightly. “Miss me?” He asked, coming over to the bed and placing the pizza down on Sebastian’s lap, glancing at the TV, seeing the news was on, speaking to some random guy outside of the pizza place he had just been at. The pimply-faced kid who he had spoken to at the pizza place was telling the interviewer how he had sold a pizza to The Nocturnal Avenger himself. Blaine scoffed, rolling his eyes.
Well that was a waste of a twenty dollar tip. Big mouth.
“Oh, huh, I guess I just missed that bird guy.” He said casually as he sat on Sebastian’s bed next to him, smiling sweetly. “Hey you, how you feeling?”
Sebastian Smythe:
Sebastian continued to watch the TV with awe, amazed to see that the apparent superhero could handle the robber without much trouble. Though cameras couldn’t follow him into the bank, moments within his arrival, hostages began to flow out of the bank. The cameras caught a glimpse of the masked man leading a little girl back to her mother before Nightbird was soaring through the sky once again. Even though they’d caught him on film multiple times, no one seemed to know who this guy really was. The media called him “The Nocturnal Avenger” and “Nightbird” among a few names. Sebastian personally thought that “Bird Boy” was the funniest and he wanted to know the man himself thought of these names he’d been given.
He continued to watch the TV and then laughed when he saw a pizza delivery guy speaking with the reporter, claiming that Nightbird had bought a pizza from him just moments ago. Sebastian supposed that even a superhero needed to eat to recharge.
When Blaine came through the door, Sebastian’s his whole face lit up at the sight of his friend. “Hey, that was quick; did you get your audition stuff settled?” Sebastian asked as he helped himself to a slice of pizza. “I’m feeling okay; I’ve just been watching some TV since you’ve been gone.” Pointing up to the TV replaying the footage of the caped crusader, “I bet the bird guy flew right over your head and that’s why you didn’t see him. Can you imagine that-- Being able to fly? That’d be freaking awesome.”
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine was relieved at times like this that Sebastian was somewhat dense to things happening around him. Anyone who was paying real close attention to the timing of everything would have been able to begin to put two and two together. But thankfully his friend was too focused on pizza and thinking about how cool it would be to fly.
Sebastian was honestly the cutest thing. He wondered if more people ever got to know that side of Sebastian- the cute, dorky side. He knew that in high school Sebastian really liked keeping his reputation as a snarky asshole that you didn't want to really mess with. Blaine was really the only one to know the real Sebastian, the nerdy Sebastian who geeked out over superheroes and all kinds of nerdy things, and while he was really thankful to be special enough for that, he really wished others could know Sebastian the way he did. Then they wouldn't have spoken about him the way they used to and they could've loved him like Blaine did.
Well, not exactly like Blaine did. Blaine had always had a special soft spot for the taller, it was more than just a friendship love he felt. Always more.
He grinned, chuckling as he took a piece of pizza. He knew how it felt to fly, obviously, and it was the most exhilarating experience and he loved it. He wished he could tell Sebastian and let him experience it, but he knew better than to let him in on the secret, for his own good. It wasn't a good idea. “Yeah, flying would be incredible.” He nodded as his phone went off, a text message with praise from Sam.
Man that was AWESOME! Sucks she got away though. We'll get her next time! Have a good day with Seb.
He sent a quick thank you before putting his phone away and smiling at Sebastian, taking a breath and relaxing a little bit, his adrenaline still pumping fast through his body. “Uh, yeah.” He nodded, taking a bite of pizza. “There was some information they needed to clarify. All is good now.” He lied, totally forgetting that's what he had told Sebastian he was off doing. Whoops. “I'm glad you're feeling better. That makes me happy.” He said, looking at the taller fondly. “It makes me really happy to see you awake.” His smile faltered slightly as he remembered how scared he had been. “I-i was so worried I wasn't going to ever speak to you again. I was afraid I had lost you again.” He said softly, placing his hand on Sebastian’s. “I can't lose you now, I just got you back.”
Sebastian Smythe:
Though the coincidence was uncanny that Blaine had been in the same place at Nightbird and the two were not spotted at the same time, Sebastian had never suspected the two were one in the same. Blaine was kind-hearted and he knew the man wouldn’t hurt a fly; in his mind there was simply no way he could be the individual that went around beating crooks up and flying through the night sky.
“You aren’t going to lose me,” Sebastian reassured Blaine once again. “I promise, I feel fine. All that resting must’ve energized me or something because I feel great. I wish they would just discharge me tonight… I hate hospitals.” Though he couldn’t complain that he was with his best friend and he was willingly staying cooped up with him, Sebastian hated that he was confined to his hospital bed until the next day. “But since I’ve been out for so long, you’ve got to catch me up on everything that’s been happening. I mean, has there been anything exciting going on lately? In your life, with Bird Boy, or anything else?”
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine smiled at his friend, taking his hand and squeezing it gently as he crinkled his nose. “Well, I'm glad. And don't worry, we'll get you out of here in no time.” He was the one to reassure Sebastian now. He knew the taller didn't like being in the hospital- he didn't like it either. He was more than ready to get back into their normal routine again.
As he took another bite of pizza, he gave a gentle shrug, shaking his head a little. “Honestly I don’t have much to report-- I’ve been here with you.” He chuckled, looking at his friend. “I might as well have been in a coma too.” He sighed, thinking for a moment, thinking back on the time that had passed. “I came to meet you for our usual dinner after fighting with Kurt when I found out that you had been struck by lightning, then I came here and stayed until my audition. I only left the hospital less than a handful of times because I was afraid to leave you for too long, I was so scared something would happen.” He said, remembering the time or two he had left for minor Nightbird reasons. “I went to the audition-- I honestly feel awful about how I did. I didn’t do my best. I’m honestly going to be really shocked if they call me back.” He sighed softly, shaking his head, looking down and picking the toppings off of a slice of pizza, placing them in his mouth. “I need to start going to auditions again now, I’m running out of money.” He chuckled softly-- being a superhero wasn’t anything like the movies, it was pricey. Especially when living in Manhattan.
He looked at the other, sighing. “And now the new development with Kurt,” He looked down, shaking his head. “I don’t know if I want to go. I mean...I really feel like I’m fighting a losing battle here with him-- It took me being out of sight for weeks for him to text me. He didn’t care enough to call me-- he texted me to tell me he misses me and to ask me out on a date.” A wrinkle settled in his forehead as he looked at Sebastian again. “I don’t know, part of me wants to go and see what he has to say...maybe even end it..” He said quietly, sighing heavily once more. “I really don’t know anymore.”
Sebastian Smythe:
Sebastian frowned as he listened to Blaine speak. It was saddening to hear that because of him, Blaine had kept himself cooped up in the hospital just to be by his side. Sebastian as least wished that he could’ve been conscious to actively appreciate Blaine’s continued presence. “I’m sorry that I’ve been out for so long and you didn’t really get much of a chance to do anything,” Sebastian apologized, “I wish you could’ve known then that everything would be alright and I’d be back to my old self in no time; at least then you could go out and live life, go to auditions…”
At the mention of Blaine’s callback, Sebastian knew he had to reassure him that everything was fine and it was important to boost the other’s confidence. “Do you think maybe you could call the director or whoever up and explain the situation-- That on the day of your callback you just weren’t yourself because of me being in the hospital? I mean, they should be understanding enough to give you a second chance, right?” Sebastian asked, though he really didn’t know much of the theatre process. Though he and Blaine were both part of the Warblers, Sebastian wasn’t nearly as interested in music or performing like Blaine had been. Sebastian liked the spotlight but being part of the Warblers was just for fun during high school.
“As for Kurt…” Sebastian took a heavy sigh and collected his thoughts. He didn’t want to let loose all his negative feelings towards the other and wanted to approach the situation as a friend, not a rival. “If he’s really wanting to give you two a second chance, then I think you should go for it. The worst that can happen is that it doesn’t work out and if you don’t try for a second chance then that’s how it’ll end up anyway, right? Go see what he has to say and I’ll keep that night open so you can call me up or come over regardless of what happens. Sound good?”
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine’s forehead wrinkled and he shook his head, reaching to give Sebastian’s hand a gentle squeeze again. “Hey, no.” He said gently, looking at the other seriously. “Don’t you apologize for anything-- you don’t have anything to apologize for. It’s not your fault.” He pat his hand gently, lifting his hand up to cup Sebastian’s face gently, brushing his thumb over his cheek. “I wanted to be here with you.” He whispered softly. “I didn’t want you to be here alone, didn’t wanna leave you again.”
He smiled a little at the taller, shaking his head once more in response. “No, that’s not really how it works. They would most likely laugh in my face. Directors, casting directors, and producers don’t really care-- you drop everything at the audition door and you give it your all no matter what or just don’t show up.” He shrugged. “It’s okay, though. You never know-- I mean, they liked me enough to call me back once. Hopefully they’ll remember that and give me a break.” He chuckled softly, crinkling his nose. “It’s okay, Seb. No worries.”
His gaze fell to the sheets once more as Sebastian spoke of Kurt, sighing heavily and nodding his head. “I guess, I just-- I’m afraid of letting him in again and him hurting me even more than he has.” Blaine shook his head, looking at Sebastian. “It’s been such a long almost seven years-- honestly, I’m exhausted.” He pursed his lips a little, exhaling through his nose before nodding again. “Okay, okay, I’ll go. But… You don’t have to do that; I would hate for you waste your night just waiting on me..” He said, shaking his head once more. He looked at his friend, feeling a little guilty for talking to him about this. He knew how Sebastian felt about him, and he knew how Sebastian felt about Kurt. It really wasn’t nice of him to talk to the other about this-- but he didn’t have anyone else and Sebastian was always the one person he could talk to about everything under the sun.
“I’m sorry,” He said, voicing some of his thoughts. “It’s not really nice of me to be in bed with you and discussing him. Knowing our history and our…” He trailed off a little, unable to find the words to describe them and what they had going on, making a hand gesture to imply what he was speaking of. “You know...this.” He chuckled, blushing a little and shaking his head.
Sebastian Smythe:
Sebastian offered Blaine a gentle smile and a half-hearted shrug, shaking his head as Blaine apologized. “You don’t have to be sorry. You and I both know there’s really only one guy I’d really want to spend Valentine’s with and it seems like he’s already got a date so, really, it’s fine,” he let out a breathy chuckle, “Waiting for you isn’t a waste. It hasn’t proven to be a waste yet, has it?” Sebastian winked at his friend as he tossed the crust of his pizza back into the box.
Although he didn’t want Blaine to go through anymore pain and suffering, he secretly hoped that Kurt would show the other his true colors one final time. Perhaps with Sebastian’s presence, Blaine would feel both safe and brave enough to finally leave his husband. It didn’t matter if Sebastian had to completely support Blaine financially until he got back on his feet; he knew that being there for Blaine would ultimately be the best thing for him in the long run. Even if things ended up fine between Blaine and Kurt, it didn’t mean the end for Sebastian’s relationship with the former as they were both seemingly determined to remain friends no matter what.
“Go see him and hear him out.” Sebastian told the other once again, his thumb subconsciously rubbing against the top of Blaine’s hand, their fingers intertwined within one another. Sebastian nudged Blaine carefully, pressing into his touch. He loved the way the other was always so gentle with him and very obviously cared for him in more ways than one. “Just don’t forget about me, alright, killer?”
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine’s heart sank a little and he felt even more guilty when Sebastian spoke of only being interested in one particular date. He felt the slight urge to tell him to forget about Kurt and ask him on a Valentine’s date instead. But he knew better than to do that-- he was already almost playing with fire as it was and if Kurt really wanted to try once more he really should attempt too. Blaine shook the idea out of his head slightly, just giving Sebastian a sweet smile. “I’m really lucky to have you, you know?” He said gently, pushing the pizza aside, sighing softly as he scooted closer to the taller.
“I don’t deserve you.” Blaine said as he pulled his hands from Sebastian and moved to stretch out on the small bed next to his friend, thankful for his small frame so he was allowed to do this. He cuddled close to him, nuzzling against his chest, sighing contently. His body relax as he got closer to the taller, he always felt so comfortable and safe near Sebastian-- which was kind of ironic considering he was the superhero and he should feel safe always. But he was so busy trying to make everyone else feel safe that he rarely had time to stop and make sure he felt that way. “I really don’t understand how someone hasn’t just snatched you up already.” He leaned on his elbow, his chin resting in his hand. “It’s because there isn’t anyone deserving of you, huh?” He crinkled his nose a little.
He knew it was extremely selfish because he was married but he loved the fact that Sebastian was still single, the thought of the other with someone left a bad taste in his mouth, no matter how selfish it was.
His ears perked up a little as he heard the television talking about how it was a nice surprise to see Nightbird out during the day-- or even at all. They were starting to worry that their hero had left them to fend for themselves. He glanced down for a moment, feeling a bit of guilt. He was being selfish all over the place lately, apparently.
Sebastian Smythe:
Being as good-looking as he had been, of course Sebastian had had his share of passes and opportunities to date. Though he occasionally dated casually, he always somehow found a reason to avoid. His go-to excuse was his career and how he wanted to work hard towards his goal of becoming a successful writer. “I’m not interested in dating anyone else,” Sebastian replied to Blaine honestly. “I mean, I’m pretty busy with work anyway; I’d be a pretty bad boyfriend.”
As the pizza box was set aside and Blaine made himself comfortable on the hospital bed, Sebastian welcomed him and wrapped his arms around him. With a content sigh, he pondered on Blaine’s statement. “Kurt and all those snobby Broadway people don’t see what I see-- You’re an incredible guy, Blaine. You’re a hard worker, you’re generous and kind, too. I think that you deserve everything that you could possibly desire.”
Sebastian heard the television and he wondered to himself if perhaps now his favorite superhero was now appearing during the daytime that it give him a greater chance to catch him on camera. He noticed Blaine semi-paying attention to the news report and decided to comment on the topic. “I’d kill for a really good picture of that flying guy; I’ve seen crappy, blurry pictures of him and I think he has some kind of insignia or logo on the back of his cape. Or oh, I wish I could interview him. Man, getting the scoop from Nightbird himself would definitely get me in the paper! It could rocket-launch my entire journalist career...”
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine scoffed, his forehead wrinkling as he shook his head. “Please, you would be an incredible boyfriend, Seb.” He chuckled, looking down and fiddling with the sheets a little. “I think so, anyway. I mean, you’re the most amazing best friend, you’re very sweet. Very affectionate.” He sighed softly, blushing slightly. “I mean...I think anyone would be extremely lucky to have you as a partner.”
He lifted his gaze back to his friend’s, giving a slight shrug. “I think you deserve everything too, y’know.” Blaine bit his lip gently, feeling extremely torn in that moment about what he should do. He knew he agreed to go with Kurt on Valentine’s Day, but the more he spent time with Sebastian the more he questioned his choices. His feelings for the taller had grown significantly over the past weeks and he was very much confused by them, extremely torn between staying faithful to a vow and throwing those words out completely and going with his gut and his heart.
He was going to speak again but decided against it when Sebastian started in about Nightbird. Blaine couldn’t stop the tiny grin that popped up on his face. The flying guy. Blaine thought it was cute how Sebastian liked Nightbird, it stroked his ego big time. “Oh yeah?” He asked, his eyebrow quirking and the gears in his mind started slowly spinning. He had never thought of that-- of how much Nightbird could help Sebastian’s career. He would have to come up with some way for Sebastian to get a really good story about Nightbird -- without revealing himself -- and he would be the one and only person to have the information and the guys at the paper he wrote for would just be dying to have Sebastian on as a full-time journalist. He could give his career a really massive boost. “Well, you’ll have to keep your eyes and ears out-- if anyone can get the scoop on Nightbird-- one of the biggest stories in the city -- it would be you.” He said confidently, crinkling his nose. “You would be famous and everyone would know your name and who you are.” He said before he started to tease, sighing dramatically. Although he knew that wasn’t realistic considering Sebastian would be safer submitting his stories anonymously when it came to Nightbird if her were to have big scoops. “You’ll be so wanted and famous that you’ll forget all about little ol’ me.”
Sebastian Smythe:
Sebastian couldn’t help but chuckle happily as Blaine complimented him. It seemed that even though Blaine was bound by a vow and what was left of his feelings for Kurt, in his mind and in his heart he already knew that Sebastian was the better choice. Though he had done away with being malicious years ago, Sebastian secretly hoped to himself that something would happen to Kurt or at least to their relationship. The thought made Sebastian feel a little guilty; he knew that if anything were to happen to either Kurt or their relationship, Blaine would be hurt and that was the last thing Sebastian wanted. A strong sense of protection flowed through him whenever he thought about Blaine.
“I don’t know if I’d be famous for getting the scoop on Nightbird; if anything, it’d just make that guy even more famous than he already is. Some people don’t actually think he has abilities and that it’s all just tricks and gimmicks to distract us from something else. I want to get the story straight and know why this guy is going around sticking out his neck for everyone.” Sebastian explained, though Blaine’s teasing made him laugh. “And besides, I couldn’t ever forget about you-- Soon you’ll be in the limelight on Broadway and you might forget about me, though. But hey, headliner journalist and breakout Broadway star? We could be New York’s next power couple.”
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine’s smile grew a little as his friend chuckled, he really liked the moments when he made Sebastian smile or laugh, it was nice knowing that he could do that still. That someone smiled because of him. He didn't get that much anymore at home.
He internally rolled his eyes when Sebastian started talking again about what people thought of Nightbird. He supposed he could see where everyone was coming from but it still made him a little upset that after all he had done to prove himself, some people still didn't believe in him. He wished he could show and tell Sebastian right then and there what all he could do. He wondered what he really thought of Nightbird- he knew he liked him a lot, but he wondered if he believed in him. “Well, maybe he just figured that he was given those abilities for some reason and why not help people if he can?” He cleared his throat slightly, raising his eyebrows. “What do you think? You think he’s legit with his abilities?”
Blaine grinned a little, shaking his head gently, letting out a soft chuckle as Sebastian suggested they could be the city’s power couple. “Yeah? We could, huh?” He crinkled his nose. “Trust me, Seb. There is no way I could ever forget about you.” He bit his lip gently, looking down and letting the moment get a little more serious. “I tried after high school. It never worked. And now that we're here again, I know that it would never happen. You're supposed to be in my life.” He said honestly, looking at the taller again and giving a little shrug. “I don't want to forget you either. Not ever.”
Sebastian Smythe:
“I believe anything is possible,” Sebastian replied, “I mean, Nightbird isn’t the first we’ve heard of people with abilities. There was an alleged news report in Illinois about a girl who could walk through walls. There was skepticism about the report itself since said girl wasn’t available for interview and people just passed it off as one of those National Enquirer stories but I don’t know… The thought of people out there having abilities? That’s really cool, don’t you think?” Sebastian mentally put himself into Nightbird’s shoes and thought to himself on what he would do. Saving people and being a hero sounded like it would be fun but he would want to be a little selfish, too. “What I don’t get is why he’s doing the whole ‘saving people’ thing-- I mean, if I had powers, I’d use them to my advantage. If I could fly, I’d take a bunch of money-making pictures and I’d always be in the right spot to get the scoop on whatever story was happening. Y’know, rocket launch my career and act dumb when people get suspicious-- The whole ‘right time, right place’ line.”
Taking a hold of Blaine’s hand, Sebastian gave it a tight squeeze and smiled brightly. “I couldn’t ever forget about you, either. I’m glad you finally figured it out that you can’t get rid of me. Sorry to burst your bubble but you’re stuck with me whether you or Kurt like it or not.” He gave his friend a snarky little grin and chuckled with amusement, leaning back in his spot on the bed. Sebastian was very happy to have found a place back in Blaine’s life again and he hoped that with time, he would find a place in Blaine’s love life again soon, too.
Blaine Anderson:
Blaine nodded his head as Sebastian spoke about the girl in Iliinois. He knew exactly who he was speaking of. He remembered having had met her once with Sam; the young girl had begun to develop her abilities when she was a teenager, very much like Blaine had and she reached out to him when she found out about him, wanting some sort of guidance to dealing with being so different. She was a very sweet girl who went by the alias Shadowcat and her abilities were very impressive. “I think it’s extremely cool to think and believe these people have actual abilities and that they’re out there helping people. Because where there’s good, there’s bad and we need someone to fend off the bad people with God knows what kind of abilities.” He said, nodding, looking at the taller as he recalled some of the people he had fought over the years, knowing that had he not been there the city and people he saved would’ve perished.
Blaine smiled gently at Sebastian, shaking his head. “You would be a very cute superhero.” He said, crinkling his nose. “You running around, saving people, doing your thing. Everyone would just be so in love with you.” He bit his lip. “I mean you’re pretty irresistible as it is, I can just imagine you going around in some little super suit fighting crime and helping people.” He couldn’t help the giddy grin that spread across his face and he rolled his eyes a little, chuckling. “I dunno if I could resist you anymore.” Blaine winked, nudging at his friend. He stopped for a moment, feeling slightly guilty then, sighing softly as the thought of Kurt crossed his mind. He shouldn’t be flirting with Sebastian if he had agreed to try again with Kurt, but his flirtation was sometimes an unconscious, automatic response to being with Sebastian. He looked down for a moment, fiddling with Sebastian’s fingers a little as he held his hand. He was very torn.
His thoughts were interrupted just half a moment later when his phone started ringing. The special ringtone let him know that it was Sam and he knew there must be something going on. He sighed once more before letting go of Sebastian’s hand and getting up. He went over to his phone, picking it up and sliding his finger across the screen. “Hey Sam, what’s up?” He asked, glancing at Sebastian before raising his eyebrows as Sam spoke in his ear, letting him know that Doctor Light had been spotting at a nearby loading dock and that it might be a good idea to follow the trail to hopefully stop whatever it was the Light planned on doing and it also might be a good idea to hurry because she was moving slightly fast. “Okay, okay. Thanks, I’ll be right there.” He told the blond before hanging up and slipping his phone into his pocket.
Blaine got closer to Sebastian, taking his hand again. “Hey, I have to head out for a bit, okay?” He nodded, giving his hand a gentle squeeze. “I’ll come back and check on you as soon as I can. I’ll text you, I-” He bit his lip looking down. “I have my date with Kurt coming up and I’ll let you know how that goes, okay?” The shorter leaned down to kiss Sebastian’s hand before giving him a sweet smile. “Love you, Seb. Stay well, okay?”
Sebastian Smythe:
It was nice to be taken serious and hold a conversation with someone who shared his interests about these unusual people who had capabilities unknown to the common man. Usually when this topic of discussion came up at work, it was brushed off as media distractions and hoaxes created by tabloids; even Nightbird was sometimes still considered a publicity stunt despite his several obvious appearances.
Sebastian quirked a brow as Blaine’s phone rang again, this time he made a mental note that Sam had a special ringtone. For a moment he wondered if perhaps he and Sam were a thing on the side but that couldn’t be possible; last time he’d heard, Sam was straight and the two were just close friends. “Hey, don’t worry about me.” Sebastian replied with a genuine tone and motioned for Blaine to leave, chuckling all the while. “I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself; if you don’t come back then I’ll keep you updated on when I get discharged and I still owe you a dinner too, so maybe we can catch a bite to eat at a location a little nicer than this bleak hospital room.” He mirrored Blaine’s smile as the chaste kiss left a tingling sensation on the back of his hand. Though he never really considered himself to be romantic, he could appreciate acts of physical affection-- especially whenever it came from Blaine. “I’m always here if you need me,” Sebastian winked at his friend, watching him leave the room, “Love you too.”
